Takamine: over 50 years of quality, great sound, and playability

The Takamine Pro series P3NY acoustic-electric guitar is the result of over a half-century of Takamine guitar-crafting knowhow. Launched in 1962 at the foot of Japan's Takamine mountains, Takamine has been designing and building acoustic guitars that are seen in the hands of some of music's biggest stars. With quality and value as guiding principles, Takamine's instruments employ the finest tonewoods, construction techniques, and technical innovations such as the proprietary CT4B preamp system found in this guitar.

Takamine's CT4B preamp system gives you natural amplified tone

The Pro series P3NY sports Takamine's CT4B preamp, giving you rich, clear-sounding amplified output — instantly. A feature of Pro series guitars, the CT4B features 3-band EQ, a volume control, and a built-in tuner. The preamp is switched on by plugging a standard instrument cable into the endpin/strap-pin jack. Unplugging the cable turns the preamp off. The CT4B is powered by a single 9-volt battery.

Takamine Pro Series P3NY New Yorker Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:
  • New Yorker body style, scalloped X-braced solid cedar top, solid sapele back, sapele laminate sides
  • African mahogany neck with bound rosewood fingerboard, 20 nickel-silver frets, wood dot-in-dot inlays

Phenomenal clarity and response, beautiful craftsmanship

I've been a Sweetwater customer for over a decade so you can imagine my joy as I opened the oversized FedEx box with a greeting from the signature pack of candy. This was my first acquisition from the Guitar Gallery and I am so impressed by the comprehensive efforts to document/photograph, set up, and package the guitar. It's so evident that the Sweetwater staff invest care and attention at each step. The guitar craftsmanship is flawless. Based on the level of detail, I can't imagine that Takamine would allow a blem in the pro series to ship out of their Japanese factory. The satin finish on this guitar is remarkable. I've never been able to navigate a neck with such ease and I wish I had it on all of my electric guitars. One notable feature is that the neck shape is just slightly asymmetrical so that it's actually more ergonomic for the grip of a fretting hand. It also helps having the action at the perfect height upon arrival - thanks to Sweetwater for their setup and Takamine for providing a split bone saddle. I think that the pinless bridge is one of the most understated features of this guitar. In addition to the clarity and response from each note/chord there is also plenty of balanced sustain. I can already hear how this guitar cuts through the mix both acoustically and through the preamp. The tuning machine heads are as smooth as they are beautiful. I'm so thankful that Takamine designed this model with a slotted headstock because I it positively contributes to the guitar's sustain and string tension. The case for this guitar is such a generous bonus. It's really a luxury vehicle for a guitar that deserves to be transported with safety and style. I originally thought the case was black but it's quite brown. I probably overlooked this because of my monitor's color calibration or the fact that I was ogling over the other detailed photos. My one minor qualm with this guitar is that I wish the electronics were less obtrusive. Ideally I'd want more resonant surface and less control panel (especially with such a beautifully crafted guitar) but the tuner and EQ sliders are very responsive. You can easily dial in a balanced sound for amplified applications. Some miscellaneous notes: The strap buttons are solidly mounted - which is great because you're going to want to play this guitar everywhere. This guitar sounds wonderful in drop D and open G tuning. My Sweetwater engineer, Brandon, was so helpful and awesomely persistent with making sure I got my hands on one of these. Don't think twice and buy your next fretted instrument from Sweetwater.

Sweet guitar

I just received this last week and I love it!! It's beautiful! Plays well and is very comfortable to play. The sound is excellent for a parlor guitar and Im a happy customer. Bret was fantastic with the customer service as always. If you're considering buying this guitar do it! You won't be disappointed. All the staff at Sweetwater are excellent. Top notch!
Music background: Just getting started.

Don't underestimate this one!

The photos do not do justice to this beautiful all solid wood guitar. The craftsmanship is flawless and every appointment adds to the overall sense of quality this guitar exudes in your hands. It sounds great, unplugged or plugged. It may be called a parlor, but the sound is not diminutive. I didn't expect the cedar top to project well. I had returned a Taylor 512 with a cedar top because the projection was poor. I don't know what Takamine has done but this guitar is a real winner. The split bridge contributes to the precise tuning, and the neck is the most comfortable I've ever played. I can reach places along the fretboard easier than my Taylor GS mini which has a shorter scale length. I had Sweetwater set up the guitar before shipping it to me and changed the strings to 11's. I love the built in tuner and just everything about this one. I've had several Taylors but sold them because they just were a bit too bright for me and not quite warm enough. I love this Takamine. It's great for smaller folks with smaller hands, but it does not play small or particularly look small.

Superb Quality Guitar

Guitar came set up perfect for me right out of the box. Great mellow woody tone. Very balanced. Couldn't find a flaw on it. All the wood and grains on top and back are very - very nice. Binding looks awsome too. It is very classy looking. All edges are smooth around the frets with none of the frets being high. Takamine's quality control department definitely seems better than alot of companies. And it helped knowing that Sweetwater checks out the guitars before it gets sent out also to make sure nothing was missed. Very solid tuners. Very cool looking with the amber buttons. This guitar has so many little things that truly sets it apart from others. I have owned and play guitars from each end of the spectrum and Takamine always impresses me. Guitar has electronics that I didnt HAVE to have on this one, but they are excellent. Very nice heavy-duty, hard shell case was included in this purchase. Sweetwater if by far the best company to work with when it comes to feeling like a valued customer. They give one-on-one attention, answering any emails and following up with phone calls. Nick has been truly "instrumental" in this purchase. Ordered this around noon on Friday and had it by about 2 on Saturday. Definitely gets 5 stars from me.
Music background: Played for 54 years and in several small local bands.

A Truly Amazing Guitar

This guitar is an absolute delight to play. I will be honest that I was worried about the size of the guitar, and the sound that would be produced by such a guitar. I was pleasantly surprised by the tone and quantity of sound that this guitar produces. It has a very warm tonal quality, but with a brilliance that makes this guitar very versatile.
