Great product and service

By Jose from San Antonio on May 6, 2017

I was able to find the e-drum set I was looking for my son. I had purchased it somewhere else but it was on back order. Luckily I found Sweetwater Sound's website and they had it in stock. Needless to say, the order from the first company was cancelled and the product was purchased from Sweetwater with quick purchase and delivery time.

Great starter set

I was extremely impressed with how sturdy this is. Got it for my 10 yr old son as a birthday gift. Very well made. Sounds just like a "real" drumset!

Great kit !!! This kit is very sensitive. Great beginner kit for an amazing price. The hi-hat controller doesn't work well but it does the job. The frame is very sturdy. Definitely a good kit !!!

Christmas

I bought this small kit for my 5 year old and he's already creating basic grooves. My son called to tell they can't get him off of them Too Cool

Lots to love at this price

Ok. To be fair my glowing review is based on a beginners impression of what a first kit should be. If you are anything more than a hobbyist I think you may look at this set in a more critical light. But… I think anyone who says this set doesn't offer value is lying.

The drumset is actually pretty easy to set up. It really only takes about 30 minutes if you know where you want everything. This being my first kit I didn't and it took a couple hours and even some tweaking over the next few days to get everything where it makes sense. But in general its very easy and self explanatory. Even the module is very easy to navigate without manual reference for anyone who has used a processor or other effect device.

Overall build quality for what you are getting is pretty good. Ive had the kit 2 weeks and I hit pretty hard and nothing has suffered much from the abuse. The kick drum tower likes to dance to the beat a lot so using a wall to prevent movement or a lower additional brace on the rack would be nice to prevent that.

The feel is not very close to acoustic drums. Its more about a small footprint with these but they do have a good amount of bounce like an acoustic kit but the tactile feel of those hits is much different. And things like cymbal sounds (lack of multi zone cymbals) and their nuances suffer greatly. Luckily the module has a USB port to trigger midi which while not improving the dynamic possibilities the quality of what is possible can be improved. Out of the box I was only able to assemble one kit that I felt was decent.

Now questions you may have. Can the kit handle a double bass pedal on the kick drum tower. Yes. But it has limitations. If you are wanting to do some pantera or metallica power grooves. Sure. But if you are practicing some Chris adler blast beats or some black metal machine gunning you will find the triggers limitations fairly shortly.

But FEAR NOT. The best solution is to get a second kick drum tower and plug it into one of the two inputs and change its setting in the module to mimic the setting of your bass drum. This will give you as fast as DB as you can put down the things throat. But this will reduce one input so further expansion will be limited by one single zone piece.

The sounds are limited but even getting one good sound is worth it given all the other features and deep editing you can do. For me the hobbyist with limited space nothing is made this well and is this feature rich. The actual kick drum tower makes it worth it.

The pedal for the kickdrum is nice solid alloy too and not cheap plastic. The rack is aluminum which is nice. The hardware is a bit weak but nothing has broke or shown signs of failing.

All in all you have a very nice set up for the price that nothing else really touches. And the quality while not the best is also not the worst either even on kits costing double. Honestly any gripes to be found on this set up can always be excused by its price and other features. You simply cant do better at this price point IMHO.

Happy Drum Girl!

Just received this drum set from my dad for Christmas and I must say I am a happy customer. The set is pretty simple to put together and the sound is amazing... My only gripe is that the kick is really low, and as a new drummer I depend on every sound to help keep me on beat.

You cant beat this lit

I'm not a review person because they are just biased opinions anyway, but I will say this is a great kit. My only suggestion to Alesis is I wish the gave a little more segregated control between the hihat foot controller and the pad. The kit was easy to put together, it doesn't take up much space, and the module sounds pretty darn good. I will always be a bigger fan of acoustic drums but this kit works great for my needs. If you are looking for an electric kit on a budget this is the one to get.

Great

I thought it was going to be cheap and flimsy however I was surprised the set is pretty cool and my kids have having so much fun with it. I love playing acoustic set however this kit is fun and easy to play

Really good set, and affordable. An ideal starter kit.

By Niko from Miami on April 13, 2017

Easy to assemble and sounds good. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn how to play drums, or someone who wants to remain sharp without making all the decibels.

Alesis Nitro

We bought this set for my 8 year son. Overall it’s a decent product. Works very well for my 8 year old who getting into drumming. Few items that I like is that you add another crash or tom as players develop over time. It took me about an 45-60 minutes to put it together. Sound is good. We bought a 100.00 Power PA speaker at another music website. This works perfect compared to buying a 300 drum amp. It does come with sticks.. but I recommend you buy a few more good quality sets as my son broke his the first day. I would recommend this product for anyone who is on a budget, new to drumming and likes the option of quite environment when playing using headphones.

Perfect for the price - no regrets, yet :)

If you are looking for an expert's review - you're at the wrong place. I am as beginner as anyone can be when it comes to drumming because I just started learning. I am 24 and haven't laid my hands on a percussion instrument, EVER! So proceed further in this review with caution. ;)

I have been reading about different electric kits but as I did not know the extent of my commitment, I was unsure of putting in $ (plus some tax, possibly) for the most basic Yamaha or Roland kit. Per my research, Alesis mostly came third in the list after Roland and Yamaha. But later this year I started looking up aggressively on review and other information about eDrum kits and found a few YouTubers playing this one. That is where it caught my attention. It was marked less than it's immediate, famous competitors. I rang up Sweetwater and Jared was extremely easy and friendly to work with and I purchased it. A huge chunk of my purchase decision goes to his friendliness and awesomeness (Thank you Jared).

Anyway, I have it for about a month now. I practice on it daily and boy how much I love it! It's awesome for 1. someone on budget
2. beginner
3. someone with uncertain commitment
4. children

I cannot tell how it compares in terms of sound as I literally haven't experience any other acoustic or eDrum kits. But here are a few notes about the product, in my humble opinion -

1. It is short when it comes to max height. If you're 5.5 or above, you'll have to use bed risers.
2. It is fairly easy to assemble. But some improvements can be made in the instruction manual. Either way, there is a YT video on how to do it so you should be fine.
3. You will not get sturdiest of feeling from the kit - It will feel cheap mostly because it is light.
4. A couple of screws might be horrible. Mine were.
6. Go through the module if there's crosstalk or sensitivity issue - all settings are in there. Alesis portal will also have answers for you.
7. This is not for you if you like to hit it really really really hard. I hit fairly hard and it's holding strong. Shakes a little at times but mostly works fine.
8. The module is programmable and you can edit the pads in terms of sensitivity, crosstalk, loudness, etc - which is fantastic.

Cheers! :)

NICE!

By Keith from New Orleans on December 17, 2016

This set compares with those priced 2 to 3 times higher. Yes, it's compact so keeping that in mind, the kit feels pretty nice and the stand is pretty stable as long as you are not planning to play like an animal you should be good to go. The pads have great response and feel. The sounds are not the greatest but I found a few presets that sound pretty good and you can always customize the kit sounds so overall it's a great set for those that don't want to spend a fortune on a nice practice set. I purchased it to use as a MIDI trigger for my recording setup but actually I will be using it for alot more then that. For the price I don't you could find a nicer set.

Finally got drums

By Ray Maynard from Jackson, TN on March 25, 2018 Music Background: Singer & Rhythm Guitar

Everything works really well. Many of the different drum sets sound quite a bit alike.
The rim around the drum heads get in my way sometimes.
I pretty new at this and 69 years old, so I'll keep watching the drum lessons on YouTube,
and do my best.

I love having the drums here any time I want to wale.

not bad

By Sweetwater Customer on September 1, 2016

have had it for a month and its not bad for the price. not the greatest sounds or the best response but can't ask for more in this price range, so its perfect for kids and beginners.

KIT Sucks

By Lonnie Allen from AR on January 20, 2018 Music Background: Played in a band for over 34 years

I got this kit a little over a year ago. It has been in my bedroom at my house with central heat and air. It played and sounded great but after less than a year the brain died and it will not play at all anymore. I called Alesis and they said there was no warranty on the kit, but they would send me a new brain for only $220. I wouldn't recommend this kit for anyone
