Extra Aggression for Your 7-string Guitar

To achieve the ideal high-gain tone, you're going to need a set of high-output pickups, like Seymour Duncan's Nazgul/Sentient 7-string Set. Here in Sweetwater's guitar shop, we've done countless pickup upgrades, and we've seldom seen a passive humbucker that can compete with the Seymour Duncan Nazgul. With its large ceramic magnet, this humbucker delivers brutal low end so you can drop tune without bottoming out, yet the midrange stays super punchy so you won't risk flabbing out or losing attack when you stack on distortion and drive. The Sentient neck pickup complements the Nazgul perfectly, adding harmonic complexity on top of traditional PAF voicing, putting it somewhere between Duncan's '59 and Jazz model. Together, this Nazgul/Sentient set is the perfect way to kick your favorite axe into high gear.

Seymour Duncan Duncan's Nazgul/Sentient 7-string Set Features:
  • A set of high-output passive humbuckers that's perfect for aggressive playing styles
  • Set includes a Sentient neck pickup and a Nazgul bridge pickup for an extended range of tone
  • Sentient neck pickup splits the difference between a '59 Model and Jazz humbucker PAF sound
  • Nazgul bridge pickup delivers insane amounts of gain with extended lows and extremely punchy mids
  • Both pickups are ideally suited for bright or semi-warm woods such as maple and korina
Unleash pure 7-string savagery with this Seymour Duncan Nazgul/Sentient Set!

Exactly what you'd expect from the name!

This is one of few times where the YouTube videos and ad copy for pickups live up to the descriptions. Absolutely amazing how much of a difference these made for clarity and articulation under high gain, without being a noisy mess. Nothing more to say on that, they're amazing and all of Seymour Duncan's superlatives in their description fit. It's one of those rare mods that actually makes it possible to play things you couldn't before (better sustain and separation instead of fighting to get to another note). I put these in an Ibanez RG7420PB 7-string, which has their Quantum pickups at 15k and 18k stock. Those are good OEM pickups already but just a bit short of the tone I wanted and seemed to struggle with downtuned setups. The stock bridge pickup was also just two conductor so I was limited on wiring options. Both the Nazgul and Sentient are 4 conductor, allowing coil taps with a very good single coil sound. The package comes with mounting rings and machine screws only, so I did have to do some modifications for a hard mount to the body. I drilled out the mounting ear holes and used my own wood-threaded screws from my parts box. These pickups also have very long adjustable pole pieces that protrude below the base plate, which required some routing on my Ibanez's pickup cavities to accommodate them. If you're doing a pickguard installation or using the trim rings you may not have that clearance problem. Just something to be aware of it you aren't doing the install yourself.
