Yamaha's NCX1200R acoustic-electric guitar offers you a balance of amazing natural 12-fret projection with a modern cutaway body for full fretboard access. It's a combination of features we rarely see at Sweetwater. It's just the kind of instrument we expect from Yamaha, a company known for producing excellent-playing and great-looking instruments anyone can afford. A comfortably contoured neck with a 2" nut makes it easy to properly fret chords, and the combination of a rosewood back and sides with a Sitka spruce top deliver timeless acoustic sound. Top it off with a A.R.T. preamp system for playing plugged in, and you've got a great guitar for any occasion.

Welcome to a new world of tone

Yamaha's NCX1200R nylon-string acoustic-electric guitar is designed to be easy to play. If you're an electric or steel-string acoustic guitarist, you'll be able to instantly adapt to the NCX1200R and start nuancing your music with the incredible range of delicate tonal colors that only a nylon-string can provide.

12-fret body delivers tons of natural progression

The 12-fret design of the NCX1200R harkens back to a time when guitars had to rely on their own natural projection, rather than on PA systems or amplifiers. By centering the bridge more in the middle of the soundboard, this configuration allows the top of the NCX1200R to vibrate more freely (like a speaker cone). The result is a much greater acoustic volume, which makes playing unplugged all the more satisfying. Add a cutaway to that, and you end up with full fret access and volume. Pretty cool, huh?

Onboard electronics makes this axe gig-ready

The Yamaha NCX1200R nylon-string acoustic-electric guitar is fitted with their A.R.T. 2-way pickup/preamplifier system, so you can take the stage whenever the opportunity presents itself. You'll enjoy rich, natural nylon-string amplified sound - without pesky feedback concerns.

Yamaha NCX1200R Nylon-string Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:
  • Wonderfully loud 12th-fret cutaway body design
  • Be gig-ready with the built-in 2-way A.R.T. electronics system
  • Solid spruce top and rosewood body provide timeless acoustic guitar sound
  • Smooth playing ebony fingerboard with full-size 2" nut makes fretting chords easy
  • Hard case included
The Yamaha NCX1200R is a supremely playable 12-fret nylon-string guitar!

Amazing at this Price Point

Thanks to Bart Good, my sales engineer, for helping me make a selection. It has turned out to be an excellent selection. The shipping was prompt and the instrument well protected. The included case is very nice indeed. I have a wood TKL case for one of my former classical guitars which I may not use for this one. As of now, that is undecided. The built-in electronics are good. The tuner is accurate within its precision and as good as or better than any built-in I've used. I can get more precision from some external tuners to 1/10th cent precision, but then, that is to be expected. The internal pickup is good, especially at this price point. It does not have excessive quack and other obnoxious artifacts. Dry, with some EQ, it is quite acceptable. Some external processing, such as with a Fishman Aura, may help with obtaining a natural sounding voice to your personal taste. I've played this instrument now (a Yamaha NCX1200R Natural) for a few weeks. I'm truly impressed with the build, tonal qualities, and intonation. What a pleasure to play and hear. Before my period of extended unemployment, in addition to some steel-string acoustics, I had a Hirade H8 (predecessor to the H8SS) made by Hirade himself, and a Takamine EC132CS (predecessor to the TC132CS). Sadly, but fortuitously, their sale helped me survive that period financially. The successor to the Takamine EC132CS, the TC132CS, is now almost twice the price of what I paid. I can say that the Yamaha NCX1200R has better intonation than the Takamine EC132CS I previously owned. Comparing tonal qualities is tricky because the Takamine had cedar top, rosewood body, and rosewood bridge/fretboard -- solid top and back with laminated sides. The Yamaha has a sitka spruce top, rosewood body, and ebony bridge/fretboard -- all solids. The two would naturally sound different. Eventually, I may find the Takamine I used to own was a little more stable in tuning when changing envrionments. Time will tell. I prefer the Yamaha's tone and believe the scale has more even voice than the Takamine I had. Also, the Yamaha projects more from the back than the Takamine did. Also, as the Yamaha opens up, I believe it's voice, projection, and dynamics will soon exceed what my Takamine had even after playing it nearly daily for several years. Comparing The Yamaha directly to the Hirade H8 would be very unfair -- they are completely different class and price bracket instruments. The Hirade was an amazing instrument with wide dynamics, great power, projection potential, and great voice. However, relative comparisons are useful. In terms of voice, intonation, resonance, sustain, and overall quality of sound, I believe the Yamaha NCX1200R already more closely approaches the Hirade voice than the Takamine did or was ever likely to approach. I'm truly impressed. It's construction from all solids is a definite plus in this price category and most likely a strong contributor to its excellent performance. Yamaha has done an excellent job of creating an instrument which is at least equal to and, in my experience with playing candidate instruments, superior to its peers in this price point and class. It has exceeded all my expectations. As always, the Sweetwater experience has been excellent.
