You've Arrived

Since 1983, Fodera has been designing electric bass guitars for top bassists like Anthony Jackson, Victor Wooten, and Oteil Burbridge, and they put all their experience and know-how into their 4th-generation Monarch Standard. Designed from the ground up for optimized sonic performance and playability, Fodera instruments use only premium tonewoods, which just happen to be drop-dead gorgeous. The Monarch Standard rocks a medium-weight ash body topped with stunning bicolor 5A flame maple. The hard rock maple neck is capped with an old-growth pau ferro fingerboard. The electronics package includes two of Fodera's Dual-coil pickups and a Fodera/Pope Standard 3-band preamp. Sweetwater bass players savor the Monarch Standard's tight low end, liquid midrange, and perfect amount of high end - fat, punchy, balanced tone that'll grace any track, onstage or in the studio.

Superior playability, sonics, and build quality

The Fodera Monarch Standard gives you the superior playability, sonics, and build quality of the custom models played by the bass gods who endorse the brand, in a more affordable axe. Crafted with the same materials by the same top luthiers, the Monarch Standard offers no options, allowing it to be built in small runs instead of one-offs, thus holding down the cost. Take a step up to boutique quality with Fodera. You've arrived.

WOW! Blown Away

I have found over my 50+ years of playing that for the most part you get what you pay for. The Fodera Monarch Std is absolutely worth every penny. The fit and finish far exceeds any and all expectations. Everything is put together with zero tolerances. No gaps at all. I couldn't even begin to get a piece of paper to catch on the neck to body joint. The neck feels like the best jazz bass neck I've ever held. And the fretwork is an example of perfection. The tones available through the pickups and active/passive electronic package covers every and all possible genre requirements. I normally play in the passive double coil mode with the pan knob at the center detent. This yields a warm P bass-ish sound only better. Moving the pan control just off center either way changes the personality of this bass. Rolled forward brings out a warm but still defined sound perfect for ballads. Moving the pan control back a tad cleans up the low end and adds more bite perfect for Jaco inspired tones or to eliminate that annoying boomy bass sound from a lousy acoustic room and/or hollow stages. There is no volume drop going from double to single coil mode. When switching to the active mode there is a bit of a volume boost which I like for bass heavy rock or soloing. The amount of active volume boost is controllable via a small trim pot inside the fully shielded control cavity where you will find some of the neatest wire runs I've ever seen. Playability is awesome. The balance is perfect in either the sitting or standing position. The Fodera is a cure for G.A.S. (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome).
