Be aware: This is NOT a true strobe light.

I purchased four of these recently. The idea was to connect them all to a power strip (via extension cords-- the power cords on the units are only about 3 ft long), which is then connected to a momentary foot switch so I can step on the pedal and add a little excitement and energy to certain parts of songs onstage. The first impression is that these are very light and made of flimsy plastic. No surprise there, given the price. I plugged in all four and turned them all to maximum speed (These have no 'off' function, only the speed control. This isn't a problem for me, as I'll be using the foot switch). The first thing I noticed after turning them on is that the four units were not all flashing at the same rate. Annoying, but again, not too surprising given the cheapness of the unit. The one major disappointment did not become apparent until I turned one of them on again after dark. Anyone who has messed with a quality halogen strobe is familiar with the surreal illusory effect they produce when they are the only light source in the room. This effect only works because the light goes from off to on and back again instantaneously without "fading" on or off. On THIS unit, however, the LEDs "fade" off instead of switching off right away-- which means that when the speed is turned up, it flashes back on before it's had a chance to shut all the way off. The result is a steady light of rapidly shifting intensity, which is nowhere near as dramatic as an actual strobe (even if there are other lights being used anyway). Despite this, I think I'll have some fun with these... but I will need to buy different strobes in the future.
