Big punch in a small package

By Cortis from Whiting, IN on April 25, 2024 Music Background: Hobby Musician, 13 years

I was really blown away by the sounds this amp and cab are capable of. It's surprising loud and very rich sounding, yet still great for using at home to practice or fiddle around with at reasonable listening levels. Plus it sounds Orange. Some of the best money I've ever spent.

Small but powerful

By Jeffrey from California on February 1, 2023 Music Background: Over 20yrs of drumming, recording, live sound production

Never having seen it in person I was blown away by just how compact it is. Perfect for practice in a small space, but don't be fooled you crank this thing until your ears bleed. The controls are beautifully simple that it would be a great recommendation for a beginner or someone just wanting to dip their toes into the tube amp sound. It has fantastic dynamic response and tone that is easy to dial in. I bought it as a practice amp but it's definitely capable to gig with.

This thing is LOUD

By Zak on July 18, 2022

Bought it for my apartment. Way too loud. Not a bad thing though. I use and headphone amp between the head and the cab to be able to adjust to lower volumes without losing the gain, only complaint is the shape knob. If it's anywhere but noon it doesn't sound all that great. EQ pedal fixes that though.

Small package, HUGE sound

By Boz from midwest USA on March 21, 2022 Music Background: Metal, modern and classic rock, eletronic

I got this combo on sale, but even at full price, I think it is worth it if you want a great practice amp (or even would be loud enough to play with a band in a small-ish space). You can get a lot of different tones out of this, but I mostly like the crunch, which it does very well, and it has a nice amount of "tube" tone to it. I usually play Vox amps, but had an itch to try something from Orange, and I am glad I did! Shout out to Derek Schweizer, my awesome sales advisor!

You get what you pay for

By Owen Moore on March 6, 2021 Music Background: Guitarist for 5 years

This amp is good for the price. When the volume is low its doesn't sound amazing but if you crank it up it actually sounds pretty nice. When using the headphone jack it sounds descent, but it is really nice to be able to use it when my family is asleep. If your not playing the amp very loud the tone is kind of muddy, but you can always fix that with pedals. (I use a phase 95 all the time and it boosts the treble a bit) Overall a good practice amp. :)

Cheap Product is Cheap

By Moe on August 21, 2020

Although some people swear by Orange gear, my initial impressions of the Micro Terror weren't so great. Maybe it's that I was used to playing on a much higher end combo amp when this came into my possession, but the tones on this generally sounded muddy, particularly with the included cabinet. Thankfully, when played through other cabinets, the amp head came to life a bit more, but I was never blown away with it. It is really portable and great for practicing, but it's hard to get a great tone. I did gig with it once, and it worked out fine, but that was with a heavily processed sound through my pedalboard. That it's an amp that can fit on the board is really nice, but ultimately, there are better options, especially now in 2020. The reason for the negative score is that the power switch on the amp eventually broke while it was in the off position. Of course, it was out of warranty by that point, but I will give Orange some credit for replying to my emails in a timely manner. Given its low price, I decided it wasn't really worth paying for a repair at a local shop, and there's not much information online about how to fix it, so now it's basically just junk. If the build quality were a bit better, I'd probably give the combo of the amp and cabinet 3 stars. The cabinet is clearly just included to give beginners something to use, but the amp was pretty decent while it worked.

WoW

By John Harris from Tecumseh Mi on March 18, 2020 Music Background: Old guy playing around with guitars since the “60’s Finally have time to commit to playing & enjoying.

I got this for practice @ home & take it to grandkids for fun times. I can't believe how it kicks it out. The reviews I read said it was small yep it's little. I'm not sure if my walls or neighbors could handle a bigger one. I'm very impressed.

Great for veteran players, bad for beginners. Muddy.

By T. Thompson from Massachusetts on May 31, 2019 Music Background: Guitarist, Bassist

I've always used Fender Twins, Super Reverbs or Marshalls. However I needed a small amp that's light and easy to move around, and I have played a few other Orange models in the past. I wouldn't suggest this amp for a beginner, that's for sure. It's very hard to get a good tone, and it's very muddy and dark. However if you're good at dialing in tone or use a pedal with it is (I use a wah, then leave the pedal cocked in the middle) and then you will get a decent brighter tone. All in all, build quality is great and packaging is good. I gave it 3 stars out of 5, which I think is fair. Just too muddy.

Amazing

No lie. The reviews are no lie. The most surprising little guy that blows people away!

Vicious Little Lunch Box!

By Bob from Ohio on March 31, 2017

After reading reviews on this hybrid tube/solid state amp, I thought it might be good for practice at home and the occasional gig out there. For home use, I dampen the output by putting the speaker in a suit case. This allows me to get the overdriven tone I want, without blowing the windows out. After tweaking tone controls on my guitars (Les Paul and Strat fitted with Seymour Duncan P-Rails), I am having a riot. This amp kicks out great overdriven tone. I back off the volume with a volume pedal, and she cleans up nicely for playing rhythm guitar. This amp really sings when you jack the volume up, as designed. However, by playing with gain, volume and tone controls on the amp, and by occasionally adding a Joyo Vintage Overdrive, I can get her to sing at relatively low volumes. I am not a heavy metal guy. I am more after the Clapton Bluesbreakers sound, with some violin type sustain. This little terror has enough volume for a small gig. This is a great little amp, for the price, or even disregarding the price.

Tiny in size, HUGE in sound

By David Woodard from Clinton, ME on April 8, 2015 Music Background: novice getting better by the day, guitar hoarder too

When the box arrived I thought there must be another box coming too as I ordered another cabinet to make a "full" stack with this Terror Head and Cabinet. I opened the box and laughed seeing how tiny the amp was. I figured it was money wasted. I was looking for something small to gig with for mic nights and to take with me for practice sessions but this isn't small, it is TINY.
Soooo, I took the amp and 2 cabinets up to the bedroom and hooked everything up and plugged in. I knew the very first chord that I had discovered something very special!!! This little unit ROCKS. So much so that during practice yesterday with a friend, I had him plug into my Marshall full stack in the living room and I brought the little Orange down for me. I even connected a small Digitech processor to it for effects...
My buddy was blown away to say the least!!!! He is now going to buy one. DONT let the size fool you, this little Terror has the pure sound of an expensive tube amp with the power of a LARGE amp.
I will definitely take this to mic nights and small gigs, it is AWESOME. So much so that I am planning on selling a few other amps I own as this will be my go-to unit.
BUY this!!!!!! You won't be sorry....take that to the bank. I haven't read a bad review on this, now I see why. A big "thank you" to my Sweetwater Rep Ryan Holquist for advice and great service. He's the best!!! If you have never ordered from Sweetwater before, ask for Ryan, you will be so happy you did. You really do get the Sweetest deal from Sweetwater!!!!

Micro Terror

By Travis Tweedle from Petal, MS on July 28, 2014 Music Background: Been playing music for 30yrs plus

I purchased this specifically to use when traveling. In my job I have to leave home 3-4 times a year some times up to a month at a time. This is small enough that it fits in a small backpack with enough room for tuner cables etc. After I got it and plugged it in I was very impressed with the Micro terror. The Cab lacked the bass but it is only an 8" speaker, but when I plugged the head into my PPC212 it really came alive on the low end. Roll off the gain and you can get some pretty good cleans. Crank the gain and it will break up to the point you could play some Thrash if you wanted to. Its very loud and versatile for being an extremely portable and inexpensive option for people looking for a practice amp that can go where you go. Finally I bought it specifically for its small size and portability. I also got sturdy, well made equipment that will stand up to constant travel as well as being able to get a good sound out of such a tiny package. I feel confident enough to say I would use it to double track a main track for added dimension.

Fantastic deal.

By Daniel from Madison, WI on February 27, 2014 Music Background: Hobbyist

I'm more of an acoustic guitar guy, but recently I've been getting back into playing electric and needed a cheap amp just so I could hear myself. Orange is a trustworthy brand, so I figured I'd go for this. Unbelievable. I have to keep it cranked down out of respect for my neighbors, but the last time I turned up the gain I was blown away by how great this amp sounds.

In short, if you have 250 and you need a small amp, stop looking and buy this one.

It sounds as good as it looks!!!

By Marcel Andrade on January 1, 2014 Music Background: hobby

Shocked and amazed!

By Cade on August 21, 2013 Music Background: Musician

Always considered buying an orange amp, but didn't want to shell out the money. I thought this would be a small investment to get a taste of the brand. I opened the box and it looked like a little toy, however I was shocked with the quality of the sound and the power that this little thing puts out! I haven't even touched my half stack since I bought this. The presence of the head and the cabinet is just beautiful. It looks like a little toy. It sounds good quiet and cranked up. Nice crisp clean and crunchy lead. Gives you a real "British" kinda sound. The head is super responsive too. You won't regret buying this I promise. Also my first time ordering with Sweetwater and I have to say I'll be back for all my musical needs. The customer service is amazing and they take much care with every order. Very fast friendly service. Thank You!! Will definitely be back for more orange products in the future.

Bigger doesn't mean better!

By James Antes from Bradenton, FL on November 27, 2012 Music Background: Pro musician, recording engineer, etc.

I bought this little set-up as a joke, thinking I would take it to a gig and play a song or too on it. THIS IS NO JOKE!!! This little set up is bad to the bone. It cranks as good, if not better than my Marshall DSL set-up and as clean as my Fender Blues Deluxe. It is so touch sensitive. You won't believe the range of sounds you can get out of this thing. In fact, if you can't get the sound your looking for out of this little set-up, you might not know what your looking for! It's just that good!!!
