Powerful Bass Amp with Microtubes Technology

The Darkglass Electronics Microtubes 900 bass amplifier head delivers pristine tone with fast attack, while also allowing you to blend in any shade of overdrive or distortion you desire. You can engage the Microtubes Engine by either pushing the front-panel button or engaging the included footswitch for anything from a bit of grit to full meltdown. The Microtubes 900's clean section offers standard EQ controls along with switches for selecting your high- and low-mid frequencies. And the Microtubes 900 is also incredibly lightweight and portable, making it easy to gig with.

Clean section with powerful tone shaping

You'll find the Microtubes 900 bass amplifier head to be extremely versatile, whether utilizing the onboard grit or not. Its clean section gives you controls for treble, bass, high-mids, and low-mids. Two switches situated on the face of the unit define the mid frequencies that are affected. Whether looking for the warm tones of old-school thump, a scooped slap tone, or something that responds well to pick playing, the clean section of the Microtubes 900 will get you there.

Onboard Microtubes Engine

Darkglass Electronics's Microtubes preamps and overdrive pedals are extremely popular at Sweetwater for how well they retain your bass's core tone, while still allowing you to dial in any shade of grit you desire. Now you can get those same saturated tones out of this powerful, gig-ready amplifier. Simply bring the Microtubes circuit in with the button on the face of the unit. Or plug in the included Intelligent Footswitch for alternating between clean and drive on the fly.

Darkglass Intelligent Footswitch

This compact device allows you to utilize many of the Microtubes 900's tonal features from your pedalboard. A quick tap of the pedal brings the amplifier's overdrive circuit into and out of play. Hold the switch for three seconds, and you'll mute the amplifier's output. This is great for tuning or between sets. The Intelligent Footswitch uses a proprietary communication protocol and is the only pedal that will work with the Microtubes 900. It can be connected to the amplifier with a standard 1/4" instrument cable.

Convenient gigging amplifier

One of the greatest benefits of purchasing a Darkglass Microtubes 900 bass amplifier head is it's gig-friendly construction. You'll immediately notice its compact dimensions that will easily slip into your backpack. And the 900-watt power section is energized by a Class D design. This keeps the amplifier coming in at a very manageable 6.39 lbs. Finally, the Microtubes 900's understated lines are courtesy of a durable aluminum chassis that protects the amp while on the road.

This is the beginning and the end.

I made this purchase with the intent to clean up my pedalboard. I had been running with a single-pedal B7K, a Vintage Microtubes, and a graphic EQ, through a different brand head (which was significantly bulkier and less portable. Too, it was somewhat inconvenient having a devoted preamp pedal that was also my main distortion. Meaning- I couldn't turn the overdrive off without having to make adjustments. This head only made sense to me. It has both distortions, which wouldn't change my base tone if I disengaged. It has a really intuitive mid control- which is what I needed my graphic EQ for, and the thing weighs like, not kidding, less than 10 lbs. It's so small and portable, it's like a cable modem. This thing changed my tone up. It allowed me to sculpt the mids exactly where I wanted, all the while getting rid of unnecessary bulk from my pedalboard (which has significantly cleaned up my signal too!). The clean to distorted signal is basically seamless with little-to-no change in volume as you engage distortion, and it's pretty much perfect for my needs. I can't recommend this enough, and if you're really into overdrive/dirt, this head is The Game.

Be Heard Lound and Clear!!

The Darkglass Microtubes 900 is a very powerful head with many options no matter your playing style. The head has a lot of headroom and the eq section lets you dial the sound you want. I guess if its in your head you can replicate the sound with this amp. The Overdrive can give you that vintage tube sound or if you want it to fuzz this is your amp.I had a question about the product and decided to write directly to Darkglass and in 24hrs my email was responded. This is what companies have to emulate. I see a bright future in the Darkglass Microtubes 900 by giving bass players the sound we need to be heard.

Sweetwater Advice

Darkglass Microtubes 900

The Darkglass Microtubes 900 stands out within the increasingly populated market of class-D bass amps. It's a hell of an entrance for the company's first foray into the world of amplification. It does a superb job of handling a wide frequency spectrum while possessing the ability to tweak the all-important midrange frequencies that make or break a truly great bass tone. The overdrive produced by its Microtubes Engine can cover a wide gamut of tones and has enough on tap to make you think twice about keeping that Rat or Big Muff on your pedalboard. It's a little pricier than its contemporaries on the market, but, to me, the extra cash is worth it for the knockout build quality and killer tone....
