Home Recording Made Easy
I just love USB microphones – they are a simple and effective option for producing pro-grade audio recordings with a portable device or computer, at home or on the go.
And with just about every mic manufacturer pumping out USB versions of their popular models, you can bet that there’s a model or two that’s built just for your level whatever that might be – whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or professional user.
Now, if you’re in the middle of the pack and are on the market for a mic that lets you get that perfect sound without the hassle of extra equipment or complicated controls, Aphex has Microphone X to offer. I know the name is somewhat cheesy, but ignore the that for a moment. This mic might be just what you need.
Out of the box, Microphone X feels solid and hefty. It has a very sturdy feel to it and comes with a carrying case, mounting clip and a mini tripod to sit securely on your desk.
Microphone X is ahead of most of its competition with its 24-bit/96k sample rate vs the standard 16-bit/44.1k. So far so good, if not particularly exceptional. However, after checking out Microphone X’s controls, things take a pleasant turn. I just can't seem to get enough of Exciter and Big Bottom, and have to restrain myself not to use them every time :)
A perfect balance of sufficient control and ease of use - these, I believe, are the strongest points of Mic X. It may be on par or moderately ahead of other models on the market when it comes to accessories, sound quality, specs, etc, but in the convenience and control department, I give it 9 out of 10. Of all the USB microphones I've laid my hands on, Aphex Microphone X is one of the best. If you’re looking for a USB microphone that lets you produce quality audio without having to rely on a rack of budget-busting effects processors, EQ and compression, then Mic X is for you.
