Standard, the best one.

Unbeatable, the most important one on the market.
Music background: Pro

Just what I needed

It is a great tool for the Studio. I just needed a little fine tuning on my vocals, Melodyne is very easy to use and works great. I hear no artifacts after tweaking a note. It has also proven to help my actual vocals. I first find the notes I am after with my guitar and then record my vocal track. I can then see if I hit the notes I was actually after. This can only help my vocal performance. And I need all the help I can get.
Music background: Guitar, Bass, and now Vocals. mostly studio and a little Live

Great for the price

For the price, it's a great intro to the world of Melodyne. Much more natural and user friendly than say Waves Tune LT at the same price.

Excellent buy. Helped me a lot to fine tune vocals and also helped me to harmonize background vocals. Highly recommend this product.

Love it way more than Waves Tune

After snagging Waves Tune in the Waves "Vocal" bundle on a deal day (gotta love 'dem deals... or not..) I started using Waves Tune. Dove into it pretty hard and had been using it almost every day for 2 months. The first thing I noticed with Tune was how quick it could go all "Kanye" on you. It really took a lot of tweaking to keep things sounding natural. I should have prefaced that I'm not looking to pull a horribly out of tune vocal out of the bowels of amateur hour, but simply doing some slight adjustments here or there to correct a strong performance that might have gone sharp or flat here or there. Small, natural, adjustments. Which is where I found Waves a bit frustrating and time consuming to work with. Cut to mix down of the record I'm currently working on... I suddenly notice this horrible snapping, ticking, popping sound. Digital clipping artifacts. In a panic induced fury, I start reverting back to earlier copies of the session and hunt down the signal chain... is my CPU overloaded from too many plugs? no. I can see it in the original tracks, is the cap on my mic damaged? no. cables, comps, pres?? no, no, no. Trace it back to the pre-tuned original tracks and discover, thankfully, the tracks were clean before I bounced them out to new tracks post Waves Tune. Confused, I took to the forums and it turns out this is an incredibly common thing to happen with Waves Tune. FINALLY getting to the point... Downloaded Melodyne 4 essential and was immediately floored by:A. how much easier it is to useB. how much more natural it soundsC. how much more room there is for expansion with the upgradesWith Tune, you add it to the track and it constantly scans and adds vocal parts, so if you just want to do a section, you need to do the snippet then immediately bounce it out. The pops and clicks it was adding occur even if you set the setting to 0% (all original track/no tune). Melodyne has none of those glitches, first of all.. Second of all, you transfer in only what you want to tune, it doesn't just grab the whole track by default like Waves does. The functionality that Melodyne Essentials has is VERY limited compared to Tune, but with how natural and easy it is to use, it more than makes up for it. The upgrades you can get into from essential are astounding, but I'm so much happier using essential than I was using Tune. Both plugs had their learning curve, for sure, but once I got it figured out, I was flying with melodyne whereas working with Tune was incredibly tedious and frustrating as the slightest adjustment could cause some serious artifacts and "tuned" sounding spots... oh yea... and then I discovered it had glitched all over my record... so BYE tunes!! Buy Melodyne Essentials. Also, for licenses. Waves drives me nuts. I have a Mac at my workstation in my studio and a PC I take with me to edit when I'm out and about and have free time, or just to lay in bed and tune/edit vocals, etc.. Waves License cloud will NOT recognize my licenses on my external SSD despite following their format procedures to the T and trouble shooting it endlessly. So basically every time I want to go between stations I need to bounce my licenses to the cloud and back down. Super annoying, especially when I forget and then open my laptop where I don't have internet and I'm screwed. So nice to just grab my iLok and ssd and go but with waves.... nyyyyope! Sure I could throw it on a thumb drive and chew up more usb real estate, but why not just have it play with iLok??? Why won't it just recognize on my ssd?? Melodyne? They're a reasonable company, they give you two activations cuz hey...maybe you have two work stations and you should be able to use it at both. Don't even need to worry about my iLok with them. Is essentials as powerful or feature heavy as the rest of the melodyne line, or even as feature rich as Tune? five stars all day all day.
