Vintage Soul, Modern Playability

The Paul Reed Smith McCarty 594 solidbody electric guitar provides a new take on their important McCarty line, gracefully blending elements of a fine vintage instrument with modern building processes and appointments. The McCarty 594's 58/15 LT (Low Turn) pickups offer up both bell-like humbucking and single-coil tones. PRS paid extra attention to the neck, designing an asymmetrical Pattern Vintage neck carve with a 24.594" scale length. And the updated bridge and Phase III locking tuners further ensure you'll be enjoying the best the McCarty 594 has to offer.

Paul Reed Smith McCarty 594 Solidbody Electric Guitar at a Glance:
  • A historic pedigree
  • Clear and smooth vintage voice
  • Updated dimensions for effortless playability
A historic pedigree

Ted McCarty had his hand in some of the most legendary designs in electric guitar history, including the original humbucking pickup. McCarty began mentoring Paul Smith, and the original Paul Reed Smith McCarty model debuted in the 1990s. Since that time, the popular model has been re-released with updated specs and continues to be a popular line for the company. This McCarty 594 represents the latest incarnation of that model, complete with updated pickups, a different neck feel, and an electronics arrangement similar to the vintage guitars McCarty helped pioneer.

Clear and smooth vintage voice

When you plug the PRS McCarty 594 solidbody electric guitar into your favorite amplifier, you will be enveloped in a rich and decidedly vintage tone. The sound is similar to the warm, clear tones that have propelled the original 58/15 pickups to the top of many of Sweetwater guitarists' favorite PAF-style pickup list. But the lower wire turns of the 58/15 LTs deliver even more clarity and nuance. Pulling up on the tone knobs attains true single-coil chime, and you have full and independent control of each pickup by way of the 4-knob control layout.

Updated dimensions for effortless playability

Some of the least visible but most powerful features of the PRS McCarty 594 include a neck feel that maximizes your performance and comfort with an asymmetrical Pattern Vintage profile. Though much like their Pattern profile, the Pattern Vintage carve is slightly thicker to fill your hand in just the right way. And the strings will always feel silky smooth when playing and bending due to the guitar's 24.594" scale length, which is also where this model of McCarty gets its name. Finally, a "tweaked" version of the Phase III locking tuners transfers even more string energy to the guitar's neck.

Paul Reed Smith McCarty 594 Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:
  • New design from Paul Reed Smith
  • Beautiful figured maple 10-Top
  • Longer 24.594" scale length offers a unique feel
  • 58/15 LT (Low Turn) pickups deliver vintage humbucking and single-coil tones
  • 4-knob layout allows individual control of each pickup's volume and tone
  • Comfortable asymmetric Pattern Vintage neck carve
  • Updated Phase III locking tuners transfer more energy to the headstock
The McCarty 594 blends the best of the old and new.

Stunning guitar! Stunning service from Swtwtr!!

This 594, 10-top, in Faded Whale Blue (bought online here from Sweetwater, and my fantastic Sales Engineer, Bob Furlong- Bob, you are the best!) was a guitar I needed like a hole in the head. I have 19 other guitars- another PRS, the P22, a Gretsch White Falcon, USA Deluxe Tele, USA 50th Annv Lonestar Strat, Gibby SG, 3 custom Carvins, Taylors, Epi's, Ibanez's...I play them all. They are all great guitars, with their own personalities, feel and tones, but this 594 has the mojo. I wasn't sure I would like the color... I love it. But the playability, the range of tones available, the neck stability, the comfort... This guitar is in a league of its own. It sounds great thru any of my amps (Mesa/Boogie Mk V, Fender Blues Deluxe, '68 Custom Princeton Reverb, Crate VC 20, Blackstar, but it is especially killer thru my Vox AC10C1 with Greenback Celestion. ( I have a very bad case of GAS ) Most of this gear came from Sweetwater, btw,... it's gotten now to where if Sweetwater doesn't carry it- then I don't need it. I'm pretty much a guitar-straight-into-the-amp guy. I love Robben Ford's tone and approach. that's where I'm coming from, musically. When I first picked it up out of the case, (double-boxed, safe and sound, and in tune!)it felt like coming home. I haven't touched a single one of my other axes since I got my hands on this one a couple months ago now, and I can't put it down. It is actually making me a better player, not just because I'm spending more time on it ( I have a more than full-time day job) but because I'm now able to get that tone and feel that inspires me to stretch out and try things I haven't tried before. I've got to have "that"tone to play anything at all, and the 594 delivers, It can do it all- comp softly, sound sweet and clear, purr, growl, howl and scream, if that's your thing. Clean, dirty, or anywhere in between, this guitar can do it, I don't know about metal, I'm almost 61, so that's not really my bag, tho' the skill required to play it is amazing (Met Mark Holcomb with Paul Smith last year- a really nice guy and ferocious player) But, otherwise it pushes all the right buttons for me!The control layout is perfect, the Pattern Vintage neck- for me the real defining magic of this guitar- is simply perfect. I'm 6' tall, 200lbs and and have good-sized hands. I'm NOT a shredder- a blues/classic rock and worship band player, and I've never really cared for thin necks. This neck isn't a baseball bat, but it is more substantial than most "modern" necks. Paul Smith is relentless in his pursuit of excellence- I met him at Gearfest last year- and he hit a grand-slam homer with this one. Clean and dry into your amp, with hair, or wet with pedals, this thing can do it all. It does for me anyway, I guess your mileage may vary. But, if you love guitar, you owe it to yourself to check this one out. I don't care if it's a bit pricey. It's worth every penny to me for the joy it's brought me. And, you can't take the money with you, but you can inspire yourself and others!I've finally got that, "If your house was on fire, your family was safe, and you could only grab ONE thing, what would it be?" It would be this guitar.
