Blues Deluxe

By Sweetwater Customer from PA on December 8, 2018

Just put this in my Blues Deluxe and so far I"m really liking it. Sounds like a Fender. I now enjoy channel 2. With the attenuator all way on, I can turn to 4-5 and it"s quieter than it used to be on 1 plus you get all the tube break up. I does get a little darker but not in a bad way. A push of the bright switch or treble knob fixes it easily. Got it a try.

If Cool is good, then this speaker is ICE!

I've been doing everything to get my Fender Hot Rod under control. The vintage 5751 in the V1 spot helped, but it was still too loud to play at home. The new Maverick did the the job very nicely. It sounds GREAT, and you can turn it down, allowing you to turn up your amp and find the "Sweet Spot". Worth every penny and more.

A solid upgrade or replacement. Rich tone for days.

The speaker tone is awesome. Using as a replacement in a vintage '69 Ampeg Gemini I, G-12. The Mother Of Jazz Amps.

To my ear, in this amp, you get a full, rich tone. This is a 75W speaker, in a 22W amp (though insanely loud), so there's no chance of pushing this into speaker breakup, as I intended. Articulate highs and smooth low end are right on, as described. Just a killer sounding speaker, not far from the tone of the original Jensen it replaced, which I'm saving for posterity.

The real sell on this is the FDM attenuation. On that point, it does what it says. It will decrease the volume, but only ~11db (if I recall). Not really noticeable at lower volumes, noting that there is no tonal change when attenuated. I wish it was closer to a 30-40 db, but that's a dream.

Had hoped I could get power amp breakup with reasonable volume, but no luck. At high volume, ~2 o'clock on the volume (max usability for this circuit), the attenuation is nice. Cuts some of the rumble and piercing. However, if you're planning on using it to get full breakup at bedroom volume that isn't happening.

All together a great tone, great buy. Just wish we could get a bigger solution to major attenuation to soak those cathodes at bedroom volume.

taming 15 watts

I'm using it with a fender tweed that 15 watts, it doesnt turn it into a bedroom level amp but it tames it really nice. When fully attenuated you don't lose any of the tone from the amp I'm really pleased with the product.
