Ultra light MOTIF sounds

By Sweetwater Customer on March 12, 2021

I like to travel light when playing out. My primary keyboard is a Nord Stage 2 EX which doesn't have those 80s motif sounds I often need ans I wanted something simple and light that would let me easily add a second set of sounds. This keyboard fit the bill perfectly - very light, so simple to use - great motif sounds - great price.

Very nice!

I tried this same board in the past but didn't spend any time with it not that much is needed to learn and I returned it. I bought another recently one and am pretty blown away with the sounds and ease of use. I have already programmed and save 15 songs complete with drums so I can play them in my duo. It's the perfect size and weight and keybed feels good to play on. Most of the buttons and knobs are right in front of you to tweak sounds, volumes, transpose, octave, etc. in seconds. I have the blue one is looks cool. For the price, this is a steal for what you get. Love Sweetwater so much and really appreciate Evan Mehre my who never fails to make sure I get what I want.

Great addition to my studio!

By Sweetwater Customer from Mn on June 5, 2018 Music Background: Self taught musician, songwriter

On a budget, not especially tech savvy,
just wanted a lot of sounds and arpeggios
that I could access right out of the box.
Got it! I needed some authentic brass
and woodwind sounds. Got it! Lots of
organs and pianos. Got it! Ability to make
layered sounds without a lot of hassle.
Got it! This has everything I was looking
for. After researching many keyboards
in this price range, I'm confident that I've
made the best choice. No regrets. My
recommendation to anyone looking to
add some muscle to their home studio-
Get it!

Yamaha MX61 Synth/Controller

By JONATHAN DC from FRANKLINTON, NC on February 6, 2018 Music Background: Guitar and bass player

I did plenty of research both in-store and online on the MX61 and am happy with my purchase. The MX61 was delivered quickly and was well packed. I chose to buy a new synth (rather than a used one from different vendor) so that I could get the bundled software, get the Sweetwater additional warranty, and to ensure I receive an instrument that has not been in a smoky environment. I'm new to synthesizers, so I had to read the Operator's Manual and watched plenty of YouTube which helped me explore the various voices and patterns. While in stores comparing sounds and the feel of the keyboards, I felt the MX had the best of both.

Nice Job Yamaha!

Decisions, decisions!
Weighted keys or synth keys? 80 lbs or 10.5 lbs? 88 keys or 61 keys? What do I REALLY want?
I want quick set up, light weight, usable sounds and reasonable price. Note: The piano needs to be decent, everything else is a bonus!
Well, that describes the Yamaha MX61!
I got one in Blue because EVERYONE plays a Black keyboard!
Nick at Sweetwater suggested the Alesis SP-2 Sustain pedal and took care of me start to finish.
Happy Customer!

Yamaha MX61 - Blue

By Jim from Central PA on March 3, 2017 Music Background: Piano, Bass, Mandolin, Violin, Uke

Let me start with a word about Sweetwater. Great organization. Very helpful with info on anything you want to know about a product. A follow up e-mail to make sure you are happy with the purchase.

Only down side with Sweetwater, is that they love to send you a new catalog (602 pages) with every purchase. I have several if anyone needs an extra. lol

Now on to the MX61.
Great synth. I use it at home for recordings, and out playing gigs. The "Factory" settings gives you a multitude of instruments/sounds that can then be tweaked real-time to find the exact sound you want, then store it as part of a "Presentation" that holds the settings for that sound, like Rhythm type, voices, Split/Layer/None, octave/transpose, etc. There are 64 "Presentations" that can be called up with the press of a button. I have setup a sort of "Fits Most Songs" sound and assigned it to Mem#1. Then others for special sounds like Bass in my left hand and Glassy Organ in the right hand for the song "Walk Of Life" by Dire Straits. Then plug in a jump drive and write all settings out to the backup. Many backups, say one for dance band, another for wedding music. reload them from the jump drive to be ready for your next gig.
Someone spent a lot of time designing this thing.
Also has a button that switches it to "DAW Remote" Basically turning it into a midi controller. I haven used this mode.

P.S. I originally purchased the MX49 and exchanged it for the MX61 for the extra octave. A must for playing gigs. other than that both 49 or 61 have all the same features.
