Excellent interface for those on a budget

I knew nothing about how to get sound from my guitar into my computer, and that education opened up a large selection of devices meant to do just that. Once my research was done (highly recommend doing it before you buy), the M-Track 2X2 appeared to be what I needed. I opted not to go for the 2X2M, as I have no need for midi functionality and doubt I ever will. So, this unit has everything I need, and comes with a load of software to get the novice started with recording. It's easy to use, hook up, and takes up very little space. It's portability makes it a great choice for laptop use, and with two inputs, you can jam with a friend or just plug in your guitar and mic for a solo session. One recommendation: while the unit comes with Cubase LE 8, I'd recommend starting off with Audacity if you've never recorded before. It's free, and much more intuitive in a world of software that is anything but intuitive. So far the recordings I've done with my acoustic guitar sound great (well, the *sound* is) and I never thought recording would be this easy and, actually, fun. For a Benjamin, you get a well made, easy entry into the mystifying world of audio recording. Lastly, several questions I had prior to buying were quickly answered by Sweetwater's staff. I wouldn't consider buying anything music related from anywhere else.

    great little box

I wasn't expecting much from this interface, but it is awesome. I also own a presonus 1818vsl, and a focusrite 6i6, and the M track is right there in quality with those two. I don't have any experience with high end interfaces, but from what I've dealt with, this can hang. It's usb powered, which is the best thing. I do wish it had a mute, but turn the usb/direct knob, and it can act like a mute. This things great for quick demos while traveling.

    Great Intro to Individual Recording

If you are looking to get the ball rolling as a solo musician or hassle-free solution to record a small group of musicians this is the piece of gear for you. I truly was swept away with how quickly and easily I was able to get to work with this project and my ideas to come to life. The instructions are straightforward and just as eager for you to get started as you are. The only drawback I have experienced is that once multiple tracks are open within a project a delay can occur which temporarily haunts your progress and causes you to start a take over again. However, this could be solved by obtaining an external hard drive in order to take some of the stress off of your system. Overall sound quality from microphone and guitar/bass are astounding and authentic. Hope you enjoy as much as I do!
