Unbelievable Clarity, USE THE SAND CHAMBER!

So I've owned these for about a year now. Love them. But out of laziness I never filled up the sand chamber until a couple days ago. What a crazy difference it makes. It sounds like I have different monitors. Seriously. Actually it exposed how much of my low end was a facade. I have much less low end, which makes sense because I'm using Focal CMS65's which is still only 6.5" woofer. Everything just sounds so much clearer and present. No mud at all! One thing I feel like I can get away with is mixing at a slightly louder volume without it being completely inaccurate.
For the first time I feel like I've got a truly professional reference in my home studio. Quartet converters + MS100's w/Sand + Focal CMS65's + ARC 2. In love with mixing again.

These stands are simply phenomenal. My only complaint might be that they are a bit hard to put together but after that they are rock solid and very stable. The cable channels are nice and keep things neat while the top-down acoustic isolation features are incredible. If you are prepared to invest in the absolute best stands you can find look no further than these!!!

    Great stands, unstable optional ms-80

The stands (ALONE) are Extremely good stands! 5.0

NOTE - The ms-80 adjustable angle plate that comes with these stands is UNSTABLE for heavier monitors. They are not supported in raised position, rear hinge and single point support in front (lifting screw)
    2.0 for these ms-80.

    Had to return them

Best stands without ms-80 angle plate are best, unless you have small/light monitors.

Monitor stands... hmmm, maybe not the most exciting thing in the world. After all, they hold up your speakers. What more is there?

If you're Ultimate Support, there's much more! Take, for example, the MS-100 stands I had a chance to check out for this issue of SweetNotes. They look like mild-mannered studio monitor stands. Each has a three-legged base with interchangeable spikes or rubber feet. There are three internal channels, two of which allow for the routing of power and audio cables; a third can be filled with sand or shot for extra stability.

But it's up top where the real action takes place. The MS-100 has a dense pad that decouples the speakers from the stands for maximum isolation. But most importantly, that pad is mounted to a mechanism that allows you to instantly fine-tune the angle and tilt of your monitors by using a handle on the back of the stand. It works quite well, making it easy to customize the position of your speakers. It's definitely one of those "why didn't someone think of this before?" sort of things.

Far from mundane stands, the MS-100s provide a much-needed new technology for speaker placement and isolation. Very cool!
