A standing wave occurs when a low-frequency sound wave is reflected back and forth between two parallel surfaces, such as two side walls in a room. A room mode occurs when the standing wave collides with the original direct sound wave. When these two waves are in phase you get exaggerated bass response, and when they're out of phase you get weakened bass response. I'm sold on Primacoustic

I'm sold on Primacoustic now. I've done a nearly-complete sound conditioning job with only Primacoustic panels and I am very happy with how well they work. They're dense, and surprisingly visually attractive. (I'm using all beige panels against white walls.) In my case, I bought several pairs of London Bass Traps, because I'd run out of the six that came with the London 16 room kit. I use several Bass Traps in corners, but the majority of them are flat against the walls as the primary sound-control panels in the recording room. The difference between before (no sound conditioning) and after (95% sound conditioned, at least to my taste) is massive. The room is an excellent recording space now. Echo, flutter, and early reflection is way, way, way down to almost nonexistent. What's left (the parts of the wall not covered) is just enough to keep the room "live" sounding. So, all-in-all, I've used two (2) of the London 8 kits, one (1) of the London 16 kits, two (2) pairs of Nimbus panels (for ceiling), and several extra pairs of London Bass Traps. The results have been fantastic.
