Use Ableton Live 9 to piece together song ideas and song structures by dragging around sections and loops in Session View" Live 9's Session View will enhance your live performances by assigning out massive MIDI controls — so you can record loops, overdub, perform in a massive synth part, and develop songs, all on the fly. Offering an inspiring workflow for everyone from DJs to solo musicians to top-level groove producers, Ableton Live 9 is a complete solution for brainstorming, creating, composing, building, growing, and performing your songs.

All the content you need to turbocharge your creativity

Holy cats! When you look at all of the amazing content Ableton packed into the Live 9 Suite, you're going to freak! For starters, there's the collection of 10 awesome virtual instruments, which covers analog synthesis, sampling, drums, physical modeling — you name it! But that's just a drop in the bucket next to the awesome effects collection you get with Live 9 Suite. We're talking about 34 killer effects, complete with guitar amp and cab modeling and other goodies. Last but not least, there's the roughly 12.5 metric tons of content you get spanning 25 expansion packs, dozens of genres, and countless samples.

Make your own effects and instruments with Max for Live

Expanding My Looper Horizons

Phase One - As a home studio tinkering musician who plays mainly for my own mental health, I have gravitated to using a looper to set up simple repetitive foundations and then endlessly noodle over top of them... Phase Two - I don't know why I have always avoided Ableton in the past, but I had some sense that it was inferior to what I was used to, which is Logic (mostly) and Pro Tools (somewhat). As everyone who knows all of these, Ableton was never meant to bring the full functionality of those packages, but to master a different sector of the music making masses... while not specifically what they were aiming at, the massive value of Ableton for me is that I can still (VERY QUICKLY) make my little repetitive foundations and have the ability to noodle over them - BUT, I can take any of those that are found to have merit and expand them out with variations and additions until there is actually something meaningful and worthwhile to listen to! Conclusion - originally, I selected Logic over Pro Tools because it was more user friendly and set up better for the solo person sitting at their computer and trying to capture ideas for possible further development - Ableton is far better as that tool than either of those packages! Sure, I miss buss-sends and multiple / composite takes and things like that, but for my initial creation purposes, Ableton is ideal! And as always, I have to give a shout-out to Sweetwater's Mike Soper, who takes great care of me, my wallet and my artistic intent!

Favorite DAW

Ableton and Push 2 are amazing! If you haven't used it yet, it's a must! Push 2 gives you total control over Ableton and makes creating on the fly a lot of fun and original

All that and then some...

It may take years to discover all that Live 9 Suite has to offer, but that's okay... I'll play! Really just scratching the surface so far, but what a comprehensive DAW this is. If you have the means, go straight to Suite, since it has everything you will need. Can't say enough about it...
