Mahogany bodied acoustics are where it's at for recording

When it comes to recording flat-picked acoustic guitars, professional recording engineers prefer instruments with a mahogany back and sides, rather than rosewood. If that surprises you, understand that it has to do with the preponderance of low end inherent in rosewood-bodied guitars (that must dealt with) versus the perfection with which a properly-recorded mahogany-bodied acoustic sits within a track. The Gibson Acoustic LG-2 American Eagle has great projection and it's superbly balanced. It's a great choice for tracking in a thick mix, yet it sounds rich and full-bodied on its own. Just aim a small-diaphragm condenser mic at the 12th fret and you're good-to-go. Record the Baggs VTC pickup system output to another track and you've got beaucoup mix options.

Get amazing sound onstage courtesy of LR Baggs VTC electronics

The Gibson Acoustic LG-2 American Eagle comes with LR Baggs's popular VTC acoustic pickup system, a popular choice among Sweetwater's acoustic guitarists. This system features a low-profile under-saddle transducer that's proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. Its sleek and effective design removes unnecessary internal components to enhance the coupling between the pickup and the guitar and improve the sensitivity of the transducer for a robust, lively, and natural acoustic sound with excellent dynamics and delicate high end. Combined with an onboard preamplifier with an unobtrusive and removable volume control, mounted just inside the soundhole, the VTC gives your Gibson Acoustic LG-2 American Eagle the amplification you need, with zero compromises for tone or convenience.

Classic Gibson craftsmanship

Gibson's reputation as a fine guitar builder dates back to the late 1800s. Handcrafted since day one by some of the most skilled luthiers around, Gibson acoustic guitars have inspired countless players around the world. When you pick up a Gibson acoustic, you know you're getting the finest tonewoods, quality hardware, and incredible attention to detail. These instruments are built to sound great and stand the test of time. After moving from Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Nashville, Tennessee (where Gibson electric guitars continue to be made), Gibson finally settled their acoustic operation in Bozeman, Montana, where they continue to make some of the finest guitars on the planet by hand.

Great Sound and Playability

First, I must say that at best I am an OK guitar player. I have a Simon and Patrick woodland pro folk I really like and a custom shop Martin that might go back in its case for good. My problem is my Wife got a Gibson L-00 that I could not stop playing. I did not want the same guitar as my wife but I wanted it close. Love this guitar. To my ear it sounds great and plays well. I love the neck and the action is perfect. It plays as easy with 12s as my other guitars do with 11s. Dustin, my product guy is fantastic. It took me a while to make up my mind and Dustin stuck with it. In the past I had a return and that was handled so well it gave me confidence to have a Guitar shipped 2000 miles.

Gibson LG-2

Love this little guitar! Great sound, really cuts through, and the photos don't do justice to the level of craftsmanship, beautiful instrument. Very playable guitar, the Taylor is going back on the shelf! Customer service was great, best online shopping experience I've had ever.

Gibson LG-2

I have spent much of the past 2 years looking for an acoustic guitar. I mostly play electric and needed a full robust sound, but I did not want a dreadnaught guitar (too bulky). I did purchase a Martin SWOMG and was mostly happy with it. However, it needed to be treated like a baby. I sold it. Recently, I heard some talk about the Gibson LG-2 and I spent many hours listening to people playing on YouTube and was basically sold. I have to give much kudos to Sweetwater's Kent Sallaz because he helped me out so much with the purchase and I am totally satisfied with his assistance throughout the years. The guitar arrived as expected and packed well. The case is very nice. The guitar looks fantastic and has great detail and you can tell that the people at Gibson care what they do. It sounds rich and full. I have not plugged it in to check out the electronics. I do not plan to record it that way. I prefer the sound of a mic in a nice, well balanced acoustic room. I have had this Gibson for only one week so it will need to be played for a while for the final verdict. But, for now, I am totally happy with this purchase.

Sam Hillman

As a fingerstyle guitarist who plays like Tommy Emmanuel, I've bought (and sold) several acoustic guitars in search of "the one." I immediately fell in love with this little Gibson because of its amazing tonal balance. Unlike other guitars I've tried, the LG-2 American Eagle's higher strings can carry the melody, without being drowned out by the lower string that carry the bass line. The midrange is articulate and nuanced, and while it's never too boomy for my taste, it also isn't painfully bright. With this guitar in my hands, my playing finally sounds the way I want it to sound.
