Innovative construction to build a better guitar

The great tone and smooth playability of the LS16R are due to Yamaha's never-ending search for perfection. The recently developed A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) process gives your guitar a broken-in and aged tone. By controlling the atmospheric pressure, temperature, and humidity, the molecular properties of the wood are manipulated to mirror those of a guitar that has been played for years. Each L Series guitar also sports a modified non-scalloped bracing that enhances the guitars low end. And the 5-ply mahogany/rosewood neck, after re-evaluation of string height and spacing, has a new design for improved playability. The Yamaha LS16RR utilizes newly developed advances in guitar construction to bring you an amazingly playable and great-sounding instrument.

Hand-selected Spruce top for great tone

Sweetwater knows that the choice of top wood can have a powerful effect the sound of an acoustic guitar. For the LS16R, Yamaha chose a premium, hand-selected solid Engelmann spruce top. Chosen as much for its look as its tone, solid spruce has a well-rounded, articulate sound with excellent projection. Its solid rosewood back and sides provide exceptional bass and focus. And because it's a solid-wood top, the tone will age gracefully, with enhanced harmonics and greater tonal balance as the years go by. Combine the premium tonewoods with the LS16R's smaller "grand auditorium" body size, and you've got a guitar that's wonderfully detailed and responsive - ideal for finger picking! Take it from the Sweetwater crew, the limited-edition Yamaha LS16R has the playability and sound you're looking for in an acoustic.

A full-range passive pickup system

The passive SRT Zero Impact Pickup was designed by Yamaha to deliver a faithful reproduction of the LS16R's natural, dynamic sound. It was also designed to minimize the impact on the guitars looks and tone. The passive design doesn't use a bulky preamp that's routed into the body to hamper the instrument's look or resonance. Each string has its own piezoelectric element for a full-sounding and accurate sound. Because this is a passive pickup system, you'll need to use an external preamp when you want to plug in the Yamaha LS16R.

Yamaha LS16R Limited Edition Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:
  • Innovative guitar design gives you an amazing-playing and sounding limited-edition instrument
  • Smaller "grand auditorium" body size is amazingly comfortable, and perfect for finger picking
  • Hand-selected solid Engelmann spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides deliver rich tone and projection

This one is a keeper.

My first guitar (in the 80's) was a Yamaha similar in size to this guitar, but it got stolen. I really liked how that guitar opened up its range of sound as the years went by. I fingerpick a lot, so I prefer rosewood rather than mahogany, and also with two small kids, I can't afford a Taylor or Martin at the moment. So, after some research, I decided to give this beauty a try. I have had Martins before, and I can say that this guitar's finish and feel is very close to a higher valued guitar. The tone is sweet and broad, and captures all fingerpicking details, and does decent strumming too, although a dreadnought would be better fit for that. Overall, you are getting several upgrades, like the finish, premium Engelmann spruce top and the piezo pickup, that would come standard with a higher priced model. Suits my style just fine, the size and feel is very comfortable, and the sound it produces makes me want to pick it up and play it every night after a long day at work. This one is a keeper.

Great tone, if your playing in a band or accompaning music, Bass tones are laking, as discribide in discription of why this guitar is made. Small an easy to play neck with a 1 3/4 nut.
