5 Stars to Gibson & Sweetwater
First of all, I cannot say enough regarding the experience of dealing with Sweetwater. I am lucky enough to live within "striking range" of their location, a short 2 hour drive. Their customer service is exemplary, including their willingness to allow me to handle two LP50s in order to select the exact instrument. I also avail myself of ordering direct from the website for non-personal items. Any transaction with Sweetwater is 5 star.
Now, regarding the guitar. I have always lusted after a LP Goldtop but wasn't willing to lay down the cash for the "real deal". Guess what? This axe is incredible. If you can live without binding and love the P90's (a personal hotspot for me), this is an incredible buy. The neck is not too beefy, but definitely has a enough meat on it, especially at higher frets, to let you know you have a real instrument in your hands. The weight is just right and the fit & finish on mine is perfect. I display my favorite axes in humidity controlled display cases. This one has a place of honor, it's almost as fun to look at as it is to play. I realize that the black & gold combo is a matter of taste, and it sure works for me. It sings and swings without the blings, but for a child of the 50's (both me and the guitar) it is a match made in heaven.
