Gibson Les Paul Traditional Plus Solidbody Electric Guitar with Plus Top at a Glance:

  • Classic tone, time-tested tonewoods
  • Plek system setup
  • Powerful, punchy pickups

Classic tone, time-tested tonewoods
Taking design and visual cues from the Les Pauls of the '80s, the Les Paul Traditional starts with an un-chambered mahogany body with traditional weight-relief holes for a beefy tone that maintains the resonance of modern Les Pauls. The body is capped with a carved maple top and the hand fitted neck tenon sports the rounded, C-shape profile common on the Les Pauls of the '80s and '90s.

Plek system setup
The Les Paul Traditional is Gibson USA's first model to utilize the revolutionary Plek system - a computer-controlled set-up that carefully measures and dresses each fret, accurately measuring the height between the fingerboard and each string, virtually eliminating string buzz and providing unbeatable playability.

Powerful, punchy pickups
Two of Gibson's best-loved humbuckers - a '57 Classic in the neck position, and a '57 Classic Plus in the bridge - give the Traditional the power, punch, and clarity of Gibson's legendary PAF pickups. Take it from the Sweetwater crew - this Les Paul has the classic sounds you want and expect from a Gibson. Other traditional appointments include vintage-style Gibson speed knobs, classic Kluson-style tuners by TonePros, which offer period-correct looks with a higher tuning ratio, and a chrome Nashville Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar.

Back to basics Gibson

I just received my first Gibson today. All I can say is that it was all I expected and even more. Finish was flawless, the guys at Sweetwater did an awesome job setting it up, packing it and getting it to my house in 3 days. Now going into the guitar itself. All I can say is that besides the great finish, the guitar is a back to basics Les Paul. No automatic tuner, no boost on the pickups, etc. Playability is great out of the box, intonation and action was set amazingly well. The guitar it self has all that character that made the Les Paul model famous. The pickups provide a great tonal range. Been an un-lightened model is a solid 9+ lbs instrument so be aware that this is a solid mahogany body guitar. Can't be happier with my buy and the awesome service provided by Sweetwater. Their serial number feature allowed me to hand pick the instrument that I liked instead of ordering one and hoping that the guitar looked great.

2016 Les Paul Traditional

For me, seeing Gibson lowering their prices back to 2013 levels and also reverted back to traditional cosmetics such as the old "Les Paul" script logo, the 2016 lineup was on my radar. At first I was set to purchase a 50's Tribute, but Sweetwater had a demo model of an Iced Tea Traditional for sale. Just had a slight ding on the neck around the 6th fret. Can't even notice in when playing. Back to the guitar. The AA top is beautiful and the finish was stunning. I saw a recent photo of Joe Bonmassas prized Lester. This Iced Tea finish matched it perfectly. I've rejected so many guitars based upon the slimmer neck profiles commonly found today. While I couldn't get a confirmaation on neck sizes, I think this one is just about .900' at the nut. Its a nice, beefy neck which I like. Sweetwater did a great job setting up this guitar. It plays just as good as it looks. This is my very first new Gibson. Forget all the fancy auto-tuners, on-board boosts, and coil taps. Go for the way Les Paul was designed in the 50's. Kluson Tuners, 57 Classics (Alinco II magnets), and beautiful bursts. This is how a Les Paul was meant to be. A traditional classic.

Fantastic finish and great sound. Great playability but a little too heavy.
