Vintage appointments

Gibson's Custom Standard Historic guitars include new appointments that add vintage authenticity. Necks and fretboards are attached using the same hide glue that was used in the '50s. Gibson also re-engineered the truss rod, truss rod washer, and anchor to their original form. And the Kluson Green Key Tuners feature proper vintage profile, color, and performance specifications. These features and others make the Gibson Custom Standard Historic 1958 Les Paul close to owning an original.

PAF-style CustomBucker pickups

Beginning with vintage CTS potentiometers and bumble bee capacitors, every part the Standard Historic 1958 Les Paul's internal signal path is designed to give you 1958 Les Paul tone. The guitar sports a pair of Gibson's CustomBucker humbuckers. The CustomBucker is a historically accurate PAF copy, letting you achieve everything from high-gain rock tones to single-coil on steroids clean tones. If you're looking for a guitar that sings with the voice of the vintage treasures, this guitar is it.

Early 1950s neck profile

The earliest Les Pauls had big, fat necks made of mahogany. Many players love those huge old necks for how comfortably they fill their hand. This Standard Historic 1958 Les Paul's bound mahogany neck (with long neck tenon) has this original chunky '50s rounded neck profile. Guitarists at Sweetwater instantly noticed how the long neck tenon and larger neck profile deliver increased sustain. And the rosewood fingerboard has acrylic trapezoid inlays that are both accurate in shape and color.

Gibson Custom Standard Historic 1958 Les Paul Features:
  • 1-piece mahogany
  • Period-correct '50s rounded neck profile
  • Hide-glued mahogany neck, with extended neck tenon
  • CustomBucker pickups sound true to late '50s tones
  • Vintage CTS potentiometers and bumble bee capacitors
The Standard Historic 1958 Les Paul is loaded with vintage vibe!

R8 VOS Lemonburst

Hands down the best feeling and sounding Paul's I've ever played. 8lbs 10oz is nice and light for a paul and the neck on mine feels more like a r9. A little slimmer than I expected which I was pleasantly surprised. The custom buckers nail that classic Allman Bros tone and the top on mine is amazing. My sales rep Paul as always is great to work with.

The Craftsmanship is amazing.

The setup and playability of the guitar out of the box was killer. Intonation was spot on. I've played dozens of expensive guitars and this one is right at the top. The Burstbucker pickups have superb clarity but remain warm and smooth when overdriven. Playing Harmonics is effortless. The neck is large, but not too large. The finish looks better in person. It has that vintage feel. The hardware was aged just enough to make it look like it was 56 years old, but not beat up. Luke was my salesman and he did an excellent job. Thanks for the great service.

Historic Les Paul

I've had several Les Paul's over the last 8-10 years (1960 Classic, 2 Traditionals, a 57 VOS, and a couple Customs) this one is top of the heap. The attention to detail on these 2014 VOS Les Paul's are quite impressive. The new dyeing process really showcases the wood grain and makes the guitar look even more like a vintage instrument. The tone of a Les Paul is often imitated but seldom duplicated. Great balance of treble, middle, and punchy bass. The new Custom Bucker pickups sound really good, still have a good push on the front end of the amp with volume on 10 but when you start tweaking the volume and tone controls the true capability of the guitar shows itself. Tuning keys are accurate, neck is chunky, intonation is in check, action was very comfortable - not super low but easy to bend.
