Gibson Les Paul Standard 2016 T - Heritage Cherry Sunburst Reviews

    Except for the weight...

Got my 1970 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe @ the tender age of 16 in 1971...As life can go, me and that ultra heavy sweet machine were forced to part ways...Ryan turned this homecoming into everything I dreamed it would be. My new machine arrived in record time. Peeling away the heavy duty packaging was a breeze. It had that new car smell...It is everything I dreamed it would be...almost perfectly tuned and not a blemish anywhere...I plugged it into my Carvin Vai half stack and it immediately took me on a trip through time. Can it be too loud??? 5 stars from me...Thanks Gibson, Sweetwater. and my friend Ryan...Bucket List: Gibson Heritage T Cherryburst...check...

    A classic with modern features

I have wanted a Gibson Les Paul Standard since 1976 but for many different reasons always ended up with different guitars, (mainly Fender, Kramer, Peavey over the years.) In the back of my mind I always planned to "scratch that itch" and get a "Paul." I found one that only weighed 8 lbs and had all of the fine features I wanted. I was especially happy that Gibson decided to leave the modern switching on the "T" model. I only received this guitar yesterday but after taking it to worship team practice last night and playing it through my Rivera Clubster today, I didn't want to wait any longer to express my extreme pleasure in this fantastic axe.

The flame top finish is exquisite. The Heritage Cherry Sunburst looks wonderful. The grain has that wonderful "3D" look to it when you move it in the light. The 60s style neck plays "like butta." All of the switching functions as advertised and gives these newer Les Pauls a lot more functionality then back in the 70s. The Burstbucker pickups sound excellent.

The guitar came setup wonderfully. As usual, the Sweetwater team delivers. Hats off to Charlie Davis on handling the transaction with his usual professionalism. I have never been let down dealing with Sweetwater.

Great example of "The Standard "

First off a big thanks to Sweetwater and my sales guy, Ian Roegels. This is Les Paul #8 for me and I am certainly glad Gibson USA went back to the traditional specs on this 2016 Standard T. Everything was great with the guitar other than the setup needed a little tweaking but that's just me. Awesome tone, fretwork and killer electronics. Finish and case were immaculate but what else would you expect from Gibson. Quality has gotten much better over the last few years, as it was decades ago. My only gripe is directed at Gibson and the only reason for my 4.5 rating. Thank goodness for Sweetwaters guitar gallery as recent LP Standards are not all created equal, as far as the AAA maple bookmatched carved top goes. Gibson, you need to do much better in picking the maple stock for your Standard tops, way too much variance and much of it is in no way AAA figured maple. Also stop changing the Les Paul standard, leave it alone. Mr. Les Paul didn't make any mistakes. Just my opinion of course. If you want a Les Paul standard that screams old school design and quality buy it while you can at this awesome price, don't wait. I believe the 2016 T model will be one that goes way up in value over the next 20 or more years.

    Very nice les paul

Guys at Sweetwater are great. Shout out to my guy Ian Roegels for years of help. Nice guitar, very pleased with the traditional design of the 2016 T standard with the modern shifting and tapping of the controls. Only reason I gave 4.5 stars is you have to be selective on which Les Paul standard you buy as the matching and quality of the carved maple top seems to vary greatly, which is Gibsons fault, not Sweetwaters. All Standards are supposed to be AAA Maple but this doesn't appear to be the case. Thank goodness Sweetwater offers the guitar gallery so you can choose by serial number. Other than that beautiful fit snd finish, fretwork and setup but what else could you expect from Gibson and Sweetwater. 2016 is a great model year for the Standard T. Back to the original design and specs. Hey Gibson, stop trying to change perfection, Mr. Les Paul didn't make any mistakes on this guitar originally so leave it be. Just my opinion of course.

    Awesome guitar

Bought this 2016 model with lots of expectation. Tone options are good. Neck feels good. Very eye appealing guitar. Really like the Grover tuners (eyes can't see to loop strings with tulip tuners). This baby stays in tune with string bends and all! Only reason for the 4.5 rating is the .009 gauge strings. Would rather have .010's for slide. But hey, plays great, sounds great! Thanks Aaron Regenold!!
