Gibson Les Paul Standard Solidbody Electric Guitar at a Glance:

  • Compound radius fretboard

  • PLEK'd for precision playability
"Modern" weight-relieved mahogany body

To give the Les Paul Standard a rich sound without excessive weight, Gibson began by choosing the tried-and-true combination of mahogany topped with a select maple top and adding weight-relieving chambers. Sweetwater guitarists love the LP warmth, but without a sore shoulder. Together, these tonewoods give you an incredibly balanced sound.

Compound radius fretboard

The Les Paul Standard features a 10"-16" compound radius fretboard for ultimate playability. The fingerboard is rounder near the nut for easy chord-grabbing and rhythm playing. As your playing heats up and moves up the fretboard, the radius flattens out for easier runs and big, big string bends. With a neck that plays this slick, you'll be up at the highest frets before you know it.

BurstBucker pickups deliver that timeless PAF humbucker tone

When it comes to capturing that classic Les Paul tone, nothing beats the sound of the Les Paul Standard's BurstBucker pickups. You'll love the tight low end, complex midrange, and sweet highs you'll get out of these pickups - it's everything you expect when you pick up a Les Paul! And for more tonal flexibility than ever, the Les Paul Standard sports coil-tapping electronics that let you select from single-coil or humbucking tones - you can even reverse the phase of the neck pickup for even more mojo.

PLEK'd for precision playability

This Gibson Les Paul Standard 2016 T feels fast and precise, thanks in large part to PLEK processing. Typically reserved for top-dollar custom guitars, this process levels the frets with pinpoint precision, providing you with the most playable fretboard you're likely to own. Each note rings loud and clear, and the fret edges feel smooth as silk.

Gibson Les Paul Standard Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:
  • "Modern" weight-relieved mahogany body reduces weight while maintaining sustain
  • Compound-radius fretboard makes it easy to switch between rhythm and lead roles
  • Dual push-pull volume controls switch pickups between single-coil and humbucking operation
  • Push-pull neck tone control reverses phase of the neck pickup's output
  • Push-pull bridge tone control switches bridge pickup to Pure Bypass mode, bypassing the tone circuit for hot, biting tone at the pull of a knob

Excellent Upgrades on this Hot Rodded Les Paul

I just bought this in Blue Mist and I love it. I've owned countless guitars (typically get bored with them and sell them on eBay or Reverb), and I've found that nothing sounds like a Les Paul. My main guitar now is a PRS 408 which is meant to be versatile so that you can get great single coil or humbucker tones. But it will never sound like a Fender or a Gibson. This guitar is a beast. But an articulate beast. The mods this year are great. I personally love the coil tapping option. The bypass switch is cool too--allows you to run the bridge pickup straight to your amp (regardless of where the pickup selector is). There's also a phase switch which adds another interesting sound to this guitar. The compound radius fretboard plays easily. And the fretwork and setup work is wonderful. Sweetwater set this up for me with 10-46 clear tones instead of the stock 9s it came with. These new hot Rodded features don't make this any less of a Les Paul. It still sounds just like it should.

Pure Wickedness

The reason I give it 4.5 stars is simply the nut. Don't care for the look of the neon white and for the money it should be dressed to stay in tune. In my opinion it should come with a professionally dressed bone nut that would match the binding and keep it in tune. Other than that the guitar completely blows me away. The pickups ups are just straight up amazing. Best humbucker I've ever played. They're hot but not too hot. Nicely balanced snarl. I got the blue mist, gorgeous. Overall Gibson has re-established why the Les Paul Standard is the iconic rock n roll guitar.
