First off, big ups to Gibson for making a great guitar for lefties. I'm getting back into the rhythm of playing again and wanted to get a new piece of gear.
I knew I wanted to go Gibson with the Les Paul being my favorite body shape, but since I was out of the loop for a while due to serious commitments I had no idea what I was going to get for a reasonable price. After searching and going through a couple different options I came across this and thought no way - a Gibson for under $1K?
After looking through its features I knew that this was a steal. It is a bare-bones Gibson with features like pickups and materials comparable to that of a $3K+ Les Paul, and its still made in the USA. I myself was drawn to the white colorway and must say that the finish is awesome - its a very solid white and you can see the woodgrain right under.
The playability of the guitar is great as well. For those questioning the "thick 50s neck", its not bad, I must admit I was a bit concerned about that myself. After getting acquainted with it I found that my Epi Les Paul Custom's neck is comparable to this. The LPJ's neck feels much nicer however thanks to the smooth satin finish. It sounds great when played through heavy distortion and has clear clean tones.
Not only is the playability similar to an Epi Custom, but the price is nearly the same as well. For a few more bucks you can get that great USA craftsmanship - my Epi came with mean fret buss on the B string while this one is straight solid.
It took me a while, but I went through several sites looking for a reasonably priced and equipped lefty, but I ultimately found that Sweetwater's selection is the best of all the major online/mail-order musical dealers. Not only that, but their customer service is great with keeping you informed of your order's status. All in all, unbelievable piece of equipment at an unbelievable price. For LEFTIES!
