Premium Jazz Box Tone

The Ibanez LGB30 hollowbody electric guitar came about when the guitar maker and jazz/R&B legend George Benson got together to create a more affordable version of his highly popular signature model. The result was better than either of them could have anticipated, and we think you'll agree as soon as you pick one up. You don't even need to plug it in to experience how good the LGB30 sounds or how smooth it plays. Between its spruce-topped maple body and its smooth, bound-ebony fretboard, those bases are covered. And when you plug in the Ibanez LGB30, you won't believe what a gem you've found.

Ibanez LGB30 Hollowbody Electric Guitar at a Glance:
  • Super 58 Custom humbucking pickups deliver smooth tone and rugged texture
  • Flamed maple, topped with spruce delivers rich sound and great looks
  • Smooth-playing ebony fretboard with binding and fret-edge treatment
Super 58 Custom humbucking pickups deliver smooth tone and rugged texture

Early hollowbody electric guitars had wonderfully expressive tone. To capture that timeless sound, Ibanez developed the Super 58 Custom pickup. This special humbucker preserves your LGB30 hollowbody guitar's punch but ditches the 60Hz hum that came with those vintage models. Your sound will be rich and full, but with enough clarity available to make the guitar much for versatile than its looks would let on. What's more, the Super 58 humbucker gives the LGB30 a touch of grit that's perfect for bluesy licks.

Flamed maple, topped with spruce delivers rich sound and great looks

Flamed maple and spruce, a favorite pairing of tonewoods around Sweetwater, come together beautifully on this LGB30 hollowbody guitar. While the maple construction of the back and sides ensures your notes will ring out with great clarity, the spruce adds the warmth and nuance that is required when playing such demanding music. And of course the figured maple looks absolutely stunning. You'll love the robust tone the LGB30 is capable of, while still retaining the singing quality you require.

Smooth-playing ebony fretboard with binding and fret-edge treatment

One thing that sets the Ibanez LGB30 apart from other hollowbodies at this price is its bound ebony fretboard, complete with Ibanez's Artstar fret-edge treatment. The high strength and density of ebony is common on high-end instruments, and the fretboard binding adds an elegant look while also enhancing playability. The frets are rounded at the edges to complete the smooth feel. If you play it without looking at the price tag, you may think the LGB30 would cost much more than it does.

Ibanez LGB30 Hollowbody Electric Guitar Features:
  • A premium jazz box based on George Benson's custom Ibanez hollowbody
  • Flame maple body topped with spruce looks fantastic and provides bright and balanced tone
  • Ultra-stable 3-piece mahogany and maple set neck delivers maximum stability
  • Bound ebony fretboard with Artstar fret-edge treatment plays like butter

This guitar

I gotta have this guitar! I am officially retired so now I can devote as much time as I can to Jazz guitar. Gonna sell the cat and the rug. I've owned a Les Paul, Strat and even older Epiphones and Harmony hollow body electric so I have some experience with hollow bodies but... this one has all the qualities of a more expensive guitar at three times or even four time the price. From the reviews, I can buy this one with confidence that Sweetwater will ship me a guitar I can be proud to own. You guys are gonna hear from me.

Awesome Jazzbox

I have had interest and been in the market for a true jazz guitar to accurately play the styles of Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery and Joe Pass. Although my other guitars (Gibson 359, LP, Strat, Tele) do have a jazzy vibe, I wanted that sound that a only a hollow body arch top can produce. I had shopped around and read hundreds of reviews and it seemed that the Gibson ES175 was the most logical choice. The only problem with that was that I was a little hesitant on springing that much cash for a guitar that would be solely dedicated to one music genre. There was an immediate attraction that I had to the LGB30. It was not a bank buster, looks like a 175 and had very good reviews as did all of the guitars in the Ibanez line that bare Mr. Benson's name. I took a chance and ordered one with the expectation that there would probably be a letdown and compromise in the purchase. As usual The good folks at Sweetwater did an awesome job of taking care of my transaction and making sure that everything was secure and smooth all the way through the shipping process. When the instrument arrived I unboxed it and was immediately stunned how beautiful this guitar was. The fit, finish and appointments were all first class. This was my first guitar of this type and I did not really know what to expect. When I brought the instrument to pitch I realized that this was a very special guitar. The action was low and the flat wound strings were smooth, soft and fast. I plugged into my 100 watt Fuchs TDS and hit the Jazz switch on channel 1 and this amazing tone just oozed out of this guitar. The intonation and setup needed some refinement but I was sold on keeping this LGB30 for my guitar arsenal. After playing the guitar for several hours I realized that I needed to take it to my luthier for a professional setup. Some of the frets around the 12th fret were dragging and buzzing a bit particularly the D and G string. As I understand this is quite common for archtops. Once I got the guitar back from my luthier is when the real magic began. The buzzing issue was resolved and the intonation was dead on. This guitar was now ready to be tested. My love affair with jazz guitar and the LGB30 had begun! In the traditional realms of jazz this instrument really puts out some very beautiful tone. I was able to dial in a very nice Kenny Burrell tone against the "Chitlins Con Carne" and "Midnight Blue" backtracks. The neck pickup is very sweet and responsive and the tone control is easy to dial in a variety of sounds. Just for grins I kicked in the bridge pup and switched over to my overdrive channel. Once again I was totally amazed at what these Super 58's could produce! This thing spit out some very raunchy goodness that was borderline sacrilegious...lol Bottom line is that LGB30 is a very fine guitar and is a very respectable Jazzbox for an incredible value. There is nothing in the price range that compares to it. This guitar is so easy and effortless to play. The tone is addictive and magic. This guitar quickly has become my hands down favorite and got me hooked on the archtops bandwagon. The one thing that really got to me was how versatile this instrument is. The acoustic tone is there and playing through a solid state or really clean tube channel can produce some fingerpicking heaven. I can play Phil Keaggy's "The Wind and the Wheat" on this guitar with ease and grace. It is the first guitar that I have owned that requires no mods or changing anything outside of a professional setup. All that said, I give this guitar a five star rating. I am a very meticulous player when it comes to my instruments and I cannot recommend this one enough to anyone who is in the market for a serious jazz instrument and a little bit more.

Fabulous Guitar

I have owned an ES-165 and ES-175 in the past. My LBG30 sounds more alive, resonant and sweet. Great guitar that can cross-over several styles with ease from Traditional Jazz - Smooth Jazz - R&B.

I love Sweetwater & Anthony Longano

This guitar is beautiful! It sounds great. I had my guitar teacher set it up and put a set of George Benson strings on it. You can't find a nicer hollow body for the money. My teacher who has been teaching and working on guitars for 53 years says the workmanship on this Ibanez is better than on his Gibson. I am just so pleased with this guitar I have been playing for 12 years. I would never buy a guitar from anyone other than Sweetwater. Anthony Logan @ extension 1279 is the best and I highly recommend him to you he will answer all your questions and you will have your Sweetwater purchase the very next day.

Sounds like a piano ?!!!

I was playing this baby downstairs in the living room when my wife shouts down from upsatirs " Is that your new guitar? It sounds like a piano. My wife has never ever bothered to comment on one of my guitars sound before. So, I was shocked as well as pleased that the LBG30's sound made her take notice. It sounds like a guitar to me, but I can understand why my wife took notice. The sound is big, open and clear and BTW I was playing it without a amp when she noticed. The intonation is dead on, and the neck is smooth and fast. This guitar is beautiful, the pictures even in the gallery do not truely do it justice. This was a birthday present from my firstborn daughter and for that reason as well as the quality and sound this will always be my favorite instrument. At this price point I just don't see whats not to like about the LGB30. Highly recommended.
