Light Show in a Box

These are, in my opinion, the best all-around light fixtures on the market. I say this because they are really well made, extremely versatile, and extremely bright for their size. Well made: Quality metal framing, good positive control components. I have another pair that has operated continuously in a practice space for two years now. Versatile: The fixture can be used alone or daisy chained together and synchronized. They can work autonomously, be DMX controlled, or can be sound activated. There are about 12 built in “programs” which consist of different lighting patterns. My favorite way to use them is to chain two together, making one the master and the other the slave, on a sound activated program. That way they synch and change the “scene” along with the music you are playing. It’s great if you are a small band and don’t have someone there to run the lighting. Basically, set up and forget. Bright: I don’t know how many lumens, but two of them lights a small - medium sized stage pretty well. LED technology has changed everything and is brighter, lighter, and cooler than conventional incandescent lighting. No more burnt gels and giant par cans. My rating: So, why the 4.5 and not the 5? I dinged them on the instructions because it took me about an hour of trial and error to find out how to do my favorite setup I described above. You have to put the master on an auto-program mode (like A008) and the slave on DMX (d001) mode to make them synch-up and be sound reactive. Anybody with lighting experience may be saying; “duh” but it wasn’t clear to me even after googling and reading the manual a couple of times. This setup is what most small bands are going to want, so put it in the book. Just sayin!

The automatic programs included with the Chauvet DJ COLORpalette are astounding! These programs include an automatic smooth color fade, strobe effects, and a sound active mode to name a few. I use two COLORpalettes as the centerpiece of my lighting rig. They will illuminate stages and dance floors alike. The amount of coverage combined with the built-in programs translates to great versatility for any venue.
