A Bass as Versatile as Bunny Himself

Chick Corea bassist and jazz fusion great Bunny Brunel partnered with ESP to bring his newest signature instrument to life. The ESP LTD Bunny Brunel bass's maple-on-alder body is light and balanced with bold body contouring for unfettered access to high frets. Bunny didn't want a low end that choked a mix. So the Aguilar humbucker and single-coil pickup pair take up just the right amount of ensemble space, with a throaty and forward midrange that helps parts stand out on their own. The active 3-band EQ reflects Bunny's eclectic needs, which range from the smooth grooves of Ziggy Marley and CAB to the nimble-fingered funk lines of Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock - a true workhorse for the gigging musician.

Built to Bunny's demanding specifications

From the look of the quilted maple top to the feel of the ebony fingerboard, the ESP LTD Bunny Brunel bass is the height of luxury for the serious bassist. ESP's radical body stylings, crafted from lightweight alder, turned out to be the right fit for Bunny at this stage in his career. The exaggerated horns provide access to all 25 frets for smooth lead playing. And the 3-piece maple neck is built to provide stability for the touring musician.

Unhyped Aguilar pickups blend with the band

Longtime session player Bunny Brunel is particular about how his bass sits in an ensemble. The passive 5M neck single-coil pickup and 5J HC bridge humbucker each begin with a natural, modern tone that's easy to slip into a mix. The active Aguilar preamp with 3-band EQ is where the player can dial in extra lows and high-end sparkle when the occasion demands. If versatility is a top priority, Sweetwater bassists recommend taking the ESP LTD Bunny Brunel bass for a spin.

An excellent choice

This bass has an impressive list of features : ebony fretboard, 3 band eq, string through hipshot bridge, hipshot detuner, quilted maple, neck through, and most importantly - active Aguilar pickups. If I were putting together a list of specs for a new bass, this is the list. The bass looks, sounds, and plays really well. I also own a Modulus/Gould 5 string custom bass, and a real German Warwick Corvette $$ 5 string, so I know what a good bass feels like and sounds like. Prior to getting this bass, I'd never had a bass with Aguilar pickups, and this is pretty much what sold me on getting it. And they sound terrific. I was also curious about using the detuner and being able to drop down to A on the B string when I needed to, and I've always preferred ebony to rosewood. All things considered, this is a terrific bass and I'm glad I got it. I don't really have any suggestions for improvement, honestly. I play on my church worship team, play some classic rock occasionally, and also play in a metal band.

B string a little large?

This looks like a stunning bass. However, I have a question> Is the 5th string really ,250? Really? You reckon it ought to be, maybe, a .150 instead? .250m is a 1/4" diameter string. Rather large, don't you think
Music background: I have played bass, off & on, for over 40 years in different genres, mostly Christian
