Great Little Instrument

I actually decided to buy a uke just to record a couple of songs I thought would work well with a simple, sparse accompaniment, so I asked a friend who plays one for some advice on size (soprano, concert, tenor, bari?), and settled on a tenor. Then started browsing, and found this one here on Sweetwater's site. I wanted to do it on the cheap, but when I saw this one, I decided to spend a bit more; I thought it looked just beautiful. It arrived in 2 days, packed very well, and it was quite a bit darker than the photo here, but nevertheless, a really beautiful looking uke. It played very nicely without any adjustment; the only thing I needed to do was get strap buttons put on it. It has a surprisingly full tone and records beautifully. I'm very happy with this purchase, and would highly recommend this particular brand and model to anyone looking for a tenor uke for not a ton of money.

What a great uke!! Even made some money in Aspen!

This is a gorgeous ukulele, loud and sounds good too, I am a beginner but have bought a few and this one, no complaints except I wish the case came with it.

This is a great uke

After playing guitar for a few years, I thought a ukulele might be fun. After some internet research, I decided the KA-TEM would meet my needs. I did not want an entry level piece of junk, but did not want to purchase a high end instrument either. I am not disappointed, the workmanship on this uke is very good. There is a bit of excess glue visible on some of the internal joints but the outer surfaces appear flawless. Although I do not have anything to compare with, this uke sounds very nice. It has a smooth warm tone, no fret buzz and is easy to finger. As with all synthetic strings, it takes a while for tuning to settle in, but mine was holding tune after about two days of intermittent play. I am disappointed in Kala customer support. I sent them an email asking for which part number Aquila strings came on this ukulele, as there are a few Aquila sets that are close to the original strings, but not exactly the same diameters. I have not received a response after several weeks of waiting.
