Kramer Assault 220 w/Seymour Duncan pickups - Natural Reviews

Extremely playable and well crafted guitar

I was in the market for a single cut guitar. I looked at Epiphones, PRS SEs and ESP LTDs. I was on the fence on buying this or an ESP Eclipse 1000 DMZ. I am glad I got the Kramer for less. I got one that weighs around 7 lbs which makes it a super light weight single cut electric guitar. The neck is a bit wider than what I am used to (Gibson 60s style slim taper necks), however has a thin profile. After playing it for a while find it very comfortable. The wood on the guitar is extremely resonant. Unplugged it sings. I play 80s hard rock and blues mostly. Personally I did not like the Seymour Duncan Alternative 8 pickup for the style of music I play. I also did not like the combination of the 59 and the Alternative 8. I swapped them for a set of Dimarzio 36th Anniversary and am totally blown away. The build quality is first rate. It balances well and plays great. Check it out.

Nice les paul cone with good range

Well sweetwater is great. Now on to the guitar. It has a SD 59 in the neck, an alternative 8 in the bridge, the maple fingerboard is nice, two volume knobs each with tap pulls to the respective pickups. The alternative 8 can go from the cream fat PAF sound to the mid 80s neo shred scene, to the nu metal, rock, or blues leads nicely. It is a nice pickup I am impressed. The 59 is the PAF tones and sparkling fat gibson sounding cleans you would expect from a guitar that is styled this way. Overall it's a nice guitar, the kramer name is well supported by this new gibson infusion of life in the productions. While it's not a gibson custom shop quality craftsmanship, it is a sweet guitar obviously made with great care.
