Great headphones at a good price.

By Joel A. from California on June 21, 2021 Music Background: Longtime Musician and beginning sound engineer.

I'll be straight forward. For the price, three are great! Perhaps you're ready to take the next step in developing your home studio. Maybe you just want a really good pair of monitoring headphones. These open back babies are so flat it's beautiful. You get exactly what you are mixing. No added boom. Crystal clear highs and no canned sound. Just exactly what you want to hear.

Amazing Headphones

By Sweetwater Customer on December 6, 2020

They're super lightweight and easy to use. They also come with an adapter on the end so you can switch the input method from 1/4" input to 1/8" input. The quality of these headphones is amazing all the way down to the quality of the input jack and adapter. Also, because they're open-back headphones, it's really easy to hear yourself sing (if you're using them for that) or just to hear other people trying to talk to you while you're using them. Overall, great product for the price! I would strongly recommend these.

AKG K612 Open back headphones.

By Bill W from NJ on May 17, 2020 Music Background: Keyboards, guitar, vocals.

Love'em. This is my first pair of open back headphones. What a difference. They are very comfortable and much less fatiguing than my closed back Sony's I play synthesizers, most of the time with headphones on in my small home studio.
I've had the experience of recording what I thought was a great sounding mix with my other headphones only to play it back later and realize how bad the mix was. Ear fatigue.
I haven't had that experience with these headphones although I haven't yet worn them for an extended session. But so far I'm very pleased with the difference. Should have had a pair of these years ago.
Try'em you'll like'em.

Un-colored sound

By Jeff Phillips from Idaho on July 1, 2019 Music Background: Home recording studio and publishing and Drummer

Very natural sound with open air design - very little coloring. Also good for vocal recording where a singer who has a hard time staying on pitch without hearing their natural voice. With these headphones they can clearly hear their natural sound from the room while adding only the backup tracks from the headphones.

Amazing for all day playing and mixing

By Gord on January 24, 2019 Music Background: 13 years of guitar (metal), about 3 years of mixing

So I"ve had these for about a month now and I am thoroughly enjoying them. I have a little home studio set up and I often play my guitar and mix for anywhere from 2-6 hours a day a few days a week. As far as sound quality I consider them top notch. Everything is extremely clear and the bass is really great on them. Before I had them I had to adjust bass levels after listening to a mix in my car. As for comfort, I honestly forget I"m wearing them at times.

These are by far the best investment I"ve made in my musical equipment over the past year. They have increased my enjoyment of playing at home and mixing greatly. They are open back so if you plan on them being soundproof they are not for you, but if you like to spend a lot of time on your computer playing an instrument or mixing songs then I highly recommend these headphones.

PS: I wear glasses and these are very comfortable with them on, much more than my turtle beach gaming headset. Probably because they are much lighter.

very natural

By mitch from tampaa on September 16, 2015

I'm a hobby guy and my only comparator is to AKG K240's. I liked the K240's but they seemed to smooth and bass heavy. My mixes were a bit harsh even in the car. I also noticed my bass was a tad thin in the car. These new cans are comfortable and I can pick out "issues" in my mix that I couldn't hear before. I think that I'm going to love listening for enjoyment also. I power them with my apogee duet which may not be enough power for some folks? I use a Shure SM7 and love tracking with these cans since the SM7 doesn't pick up ANY bleed. I can hear my questionable vocals in the mix while tracking which is probably unusual for open backs?? Like any piece of gear, I can't wait to really get to know these cans. To love them right out of the box is a great sign!!

thx,

A no-brainer.

By Michael from Chicago on August 2, 2015 Music Background: Drummer, recording engineer, producer.

What can I say? AKG has been making superlative headphones for a long time. The K612's carry on that great legacy admirably.

The sound is crystal clear, but not harsh. I can't wait to hear how they sound once burned in. The bass is there, not huge, but there. Bass-heads look elsewhere. The mids are phenomenal.

I also own a pair of K240's and adore them. For $200, you get a lot of headphone. Build quality is top notch.

Buy em!

Pitchy problem solver

By Rony Cantave from Philadelphia Pa on April 13, 2015 Music Background: Artist/Recording/Mixing Engineer

I've been struggling with singing using headphones, as they just didn't allow me to hear myself accurately.
After years of using semi open and closed back headphones, I decided to give these pair of open backs a try, within a few minutes of using these bad boys my performance improved significantly.

Simply Sublime

By James Cowan from Fairfield, Ca on October 31, 2014 Music Background: Home Studio Start Up

I just got these as an upgrade from my AKG K77. Absolutely the best reference headphones I have ever heard. So clear and pure, and comfortable. I highly recommend these as a "next" step up to pro gear. The price is right, and you cannot go wrong with the sound. Even the bass response is great. Also, Sweetwater is without a doubt the best online music retailer! Unbeatable customer service. I am very happy all the way around.

Very nice!

By Sweetwater Customer on February 19, 2022 Music Background: Music Technology Professor

I really can't fault these headphones much - the sound quality is open and non-fatiguing...and they are very comfortable. I just wish they had a detachable cable. Other than that - I'm not sure that you can buy a better mixing set than this a the price!

Blessings...!

AKG K612 Pro

By Kevin J. from Pennsylvania on June 21, 2016 Music Background: DJ (on air} and live sound tech.

Great sound stage and localization. Extended frequency does matter and these cans have it. Extreme low and high frequency noise stay out of the audio band..... very clean sound. Excellent for post mixing and mastering. One caveat, 120 Ohm resistance make it almost impossible to drive from a computer. A USB headphone amplifier is needed.

Awesome headphones for the price

By Isaac Castillo from Mesa, Arizona on October 1, 2014 Music Background: Audio Engineer, Live Sound Engineer, Pro Musician, Recording Engineer, Student

These headphones are amazing. Coming from the AKG k240 headphones, these are so much more open and wide. You can hear more detail and clarity. The thing I dislike is not having a detachable cable so I have to be extra precocious. They are wonderful headphones and great for mixing but the detachable cable would have made these headphones 5 stars

Good for the Money

By Sweetwater Customer from near Philly PA USA on July 10, 2014

Very clear and detailed sound. A bit of a tight fit (but I have a large head). My only real complaint is that they make leather-chair-like squeaks when you move your head around; hopefully this will go away once they are more fully broken in.

natural sounding

By milton from springhill,LA on January 18, 2014 Music Background: Hobbyist

this headphone give a wide sound stage be open back, great dynamic range, killer Mid-range and highs and sub bass. this bring out best in the Focusrite VRM Box.

Not well made

By Arthur Schweigard from Montague, NJ on October 24, 2021 Music Background: Semi Pro

Had these for a few years, they sound good but one side went dead. I take extra care of my equipment. Never dropped never pulled on the cable and always hung up after use. One day just failed.

Ultimately, it's poorly made

By Glenn from Birmingham on November 19, 2020 Music Background: Professional Musician

I've owned these for 18 months. And in that short time, they've failed twice due to poor soldering (different soldering joints each time). I use these in a studio -- not run & gun, so you'd think that it would be very hard for these things to fail. The internal wiring is cheap at best, and the construction is very poor.

That aside, when everything is connected properly, these sound great. They are comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

Audio Quality: 4/5
Construction Quality: 2/5

Feels cheap

By Rane Fisher from Lebanon, MO on November 30, 2019 Music Background: 9 years of sound design

I've been using these for almost 2 years. These were my first "Professional" headphones. They feel very cheap for 200 bucks. They are aggravating because they are so fragile and the cord is excessively too long for practical field recording and just in the studio. Construction is mostly plastic with metallic paint. It didn't take too long for bass on one side to go out. I really don't like them. If they broke I wouldn't replace them under warranty because I don't want another AKG set. I have another that is also made of the same quality plastic and for $60. The K612 "PRO" is comfortable to wear, but very awkward in every situation. Do I really need this fancy head dress to do what I need to and hear it? If you don't have family or friends and not planning to be seen wearing these ridiculous cans, then these are for you.

Lastly… they came unprotected in a thin card-stock box, no bag, no foam or bubble wrap. Just box and headphones. I expected more at least in package design and protection...

Not good For Hip-Hop Trap Genre

By michael vest from San Jose, CA on December 24, 2021 Music Background: Beat Maker

Ive been using these to mix my beats, and once i play the beat out loud on studio monitors it never sounds good or as good as it did in the headphones. I have used my Turtle beach "gaming headset" and have gotten better end mix results than I have with these. it's very dissapointing.

maybe these just weren't made for my type of music, I dunno.
