Big tone with classic tonewoods

Squier's Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass V Special features a set of classic tonewoods for killer bass tone. Its solid basswood body gives you a broad and extremely rich tone that has a particularly strong low-end resonance. To add snap and warmth, Squier also gave the Jaguar Bass V Special a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. Together with its flexible pickup combination, the 5-string Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass V Special lets you get the most out of any bass amplifier.

Dual pickups provide a broad range of sounds

The powerful tone of the Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass V comes courtesy of a Fender-designed Jazz Bass single-coil pickup in the bridge and a Single Split-Coil Precision Bass V pickup in the middle. Adjustable pole pieces in the Jazz Bass pickup let you tailor your bass's sound and response. These pickups sound fat and full on their own, but you can take their tone into new sonic territory with the powerful tone-shaping capabilities of the Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass V Special.

Active electronics for optimized tone

The Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass V sports an active bass boost control that lets you dial in an extra dose of low-end power. Combined with the master tone control, no bass tone is beyond reach with the Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass V Special.

Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass V Special 5-string Solidbody Electric Bass Features:
  • An affordable 5-string bass with active electronics
  • A true workhorse bass that plays and sounds great
  • Jazz Bass and Precision Bass pickups deliver fat, full tones
  • Fine-tuned tone controls give you access to any type of bass sound you need

Great Bass

Bass sounds great and is worth three times the money. I have the four string model and had to have the five. I have several vintage bass guitars and the Jaguar models are my go to bass guitars for live and recording.

Better bass than the price would have you believe!

I figured that for $250 it was a low risk investment, and even if this bass wasn't built well, I would at least have something that was playable and I could always replace the pickups and other hardware with better components. As it turns out, the fit-and-finish of the bass is really quite good. The pickups and tone controls take some getting used to, but if you use the "active bass boost" sparingly (the rest of the controls are actually passive) you can dial in some great P & J sounds! Neck & tuners are great. You may have to spend a little time setting it up - adjusting the action and intonation (its pretty easy to do) - and then its really quite playable. I did swap out the stock strings (130,110,85,65,45) for a Kalium balanced set 130,98,73,55,39 and I was hesitant they would be too light, but they actually feel, play and sound incredible! The bottom line is this bass has exceeded my expectations and I'm not changing any of the components. Sweetwater also exceeded my expectations, as it was my first purchase with them and the experience was like nothing else in the industry. They actually have very knowledgeable and experienced real musicians working for them, and they will talk with you pre- and post- sale to ensure your satisfaction (thanks Joel!). Sweetwater is now the ONLY place I go for musical instruments.

Great Bass !

Squier these days is making great instruments ! This 5 string is extrordinary ! Fit and finish is as good as any Fender, and the punchy, powerful growly tone blew me away ! There is absolutely no need to "upgrade " the pickups on this bass (for all you "shinier hubcaps" guys). They sound excellent! The Jazz pickup is positioned farther from the bridge than on a Fender Jag Bass or Jazz Bass, so it gets more bottom end than usual and is incredibly punchy. All the controls are active through the preamp-not just the Bass Boost , and found that I could back off on vol and tone and clean up the sound without loosing top end. Took a bit to set it up- had to flattem out the adjustable pole pieces on the J pickup as they were clacking on the strings while playing. Raised the whole pickup appropriately and lowered the strings just a bit. Love this bass. If you didn't know - you would think you're playing a Fender Standard or American Standard !Sweetwater double packed the bass and added more bubble wrap. Great attention to details.

Modified Jaguar Bass V Special

I am like many experienced bass players, Squier means a cheap bass for a cheap price? Not his this time. Fender & Squier got it right. The feel of the neck and the satin finish, are great. The pickups, active boost and most of all the weight of the bass. Usually inexpensive bass lean toward heavy.Like one of the other reviewers posted, he was right about changing the original strings for whatever strings you use. I will play this at any time and any place. Squier will help the young bassist coming up sound great and and save a few bucks at the same time.
