Amazing quality, construction and sound

By Kevin from Currently living in Okinawa ( retired USAF ) on October 23, 2023 Music Background: Boss jazz and metal guitar

I purchased this beast back in 2007 ( I think ). It was my gift to me after serving in Iraq for one year. To this day I am blown away with the quality, sound and POWER this amp has. I also purchased a 1960 A Cab to go with it, match made in heaven for sure. I was planing to get the 1960B as well until I tried it with just the A cab. Wow, it is so loud and clear, believe it or not I never had it past 6 and even that was earth shaking. When I play live I never go past 4, anything more and it overpowers everyone else in the band. I also learned that Lowe volume from the source produces the best sound. Let your PA system mains control that. As it gets older I swear it sounds better, not even sure if that is possible but it could be my age and love for the finest tones

A Great Versatile Amp

By Sweetwater Customer on May 4, 2023

This is a great versatile amp with awesome clean tones to the heaviest of the heaviest drive. It can be difficult to have all 12 tones leveled to where you want them, but you don't need 12 tones. The master volumes help a lot in this endeavor.

It is ridiculously loud, but I attenuate it to 50w for home use.

Marshall JVM 410H

Best sounding amp with many options and lots of layers for the creativity in us all. Marshall, you made a champ here with this amp. I had purchased a Mesa Boogie amp from my favorite Music gear company Sweetwater, and I must say I love my mesa Boogie, but I have added a new animal to my mixture and its name is Marshall. Thank you, Sweetwater, for all your help......

If I could only have one amp, this would be it

By Rob from Oklahoma, USA on August 17, 2022 Music Background: Amateur Musician

I've got all the amps I've ever wanted, this one is still my favorite. If you lookup online how to dial in the different channels you can see that there's almost nothing you can't mirror with this amp. I had a DSL, then got this. Since then I've bought 4-5 more Marshall amps (Silver Jubilee, JTM45, etc.) and the only ones this can't do are the Class 5 (which is meh at best) and the Astoria Dual (Marshall's hand at boutique, a great amp on its own too). It's never going to clean up like a Fender or other 6v6/6L6 amp but its clean is a wonderfully warm tone all to itself.

I only use the green and orange channels too, red is seriously overkill!

I've had mine for ~10 years now, not a single issue. Of all the things I've bought that just wound up in a box in the closet, this one will never be there.

Best Marshall head ever!

Short and sweet version!
Best marshall amp ever developed. It does it all!
Expensive as hell but worth it!!

Powerful and Versatile

By Timothy Appling from Florida Keys on May 26, 2022 Music Background: Professional

This head is a beast. I have used Marshall and other amps for 40 years and this one is my favorite. You have 4 separate channels with 3 different settings each. You can set the amp for 12 different sounds that you can change with just a tap of the included footswitch. From the cleanest of clean to the nastiest distortion, this amp does it all. I use it with a Marshall 1960 412 cabinet, and it is more than sufficient enough for any club or outdoor event most musicians will ever play.

Monster Head

By Mark Stinson from WI on May 24, 2022

4 channels of Bliss! Clean is a very chimney clean. Crunch is 70s Bliss. OD1 is 80s to modern Marshall. OD2 is great for lead's, thicker and smooth. Reverb for each and 2 volumes to add dynamics. Buy it!

So happy I pulled the trigger!

By Sweetwater Customer from Oregon on April 29, 2022

The versatility and sound out of this amp blew my mind! I could not be happier and recommend if you are contemplating whether to spend the money. I have other amps that do not come close to this amp that I may now sell.

Solid amp

By Z H from Chuco Town TX on April 1, 2021 Music Background: Annoys people at work with horrible recordings off my phone.

I was fortunate enough to basically inherit this amp 10 plus years ago and it's still going strong. Played and backlined countless shows with it. Really great for punk and metal if you bias it kinda hot. It's unfortunately taken quite a few falls that should've destroyed most amps and still works great.
Overall closest sounding amp to early 80s marshall tone without using a pedal. Sounds great even at low volumes but doesn't get much louder after about 6, just breaks up more.

Only thing I dont care for is it doesn't have a natural reverb tank and you can't save the presence and resonance settings for each channel.

Unfortunately it seems to have gone up in price by almost a g so I'd recommend just getting a used one in good condition.

Amazing & Seemingly Endless Possibilities

By DL Cross from Cedar Hill, TX on April 24, 2020

I purchased one of these to replace one of my Blackstar Series One 4 channel heads that was malfunctioning and with the COVID-19 virus shutting down all repair shops, I wanted my full blown stereo set up in full swing to take advantage of my new found time thanks to the quarantine.

I received it and quickly installed it upon the awaiting 4x12 cabinet. I was blown away by the features. Having 3 gain voicing per channel is nice.....having a programmable second master volume is cool....but being able to program which channel gets the effects loop was the final quality that led me to buy another to replace my other working Blackstar head. Now I have two of these bad boys and am using a Rocktron All Access midi controller to switch the stereo set up. The tonal possibilities seem endless.

Absolutely awe inspiring.

Should've Bought It Sooner

By Drew H. from Indiana on February 15, 2019

Flashback to 5 years ago. I play this amp at Gearfest, am blown away, but end up not buying it for one reason: the name on the tolex. I've always had the preconception that Marshalls could not do the high-gain stuff of today. People on forums backed up my thoughts and led me to believe that the quality was lacking. Through those five years I've owned Framus Cobras, Peavey 6505s, Boogies, etc, and have always wished they could do more AND still be brutal if needed. Fast-forward to a somewhat more reasonable and "savvy" version of myself. Well, at least after the sales people at Sweetwater steered me in the right direction. I bought this amp over a Diezel Hagen, and while Diezel makes quality stuff (and noone can deny that), this Marshall is a swiss-army knife and gives my Peavey a run for its money in the brutality department. I should note that it needs a overdrive in front of it to really make it a metal beast, but even without one it sounded killer. OD1 is a great channel for leads, and Marshalls just PUSH sound everywhere. There really is nothing like it.

The only bad thing about this amp is that it's a LOUD piece of gear. I have a noise gate in the front of the amp, and even attenuated this thing WANTS to make it known that it is here and turned on. For this reason I would recommend a noise gate in the front and back of the amp if you plan to do more "modern" metal or other high-gain applications. If anything, it'll make you a better and more quiet player, but even with great technique cranked up this thing roars and needs some help staying quiet when it needs to be. Other than that, this amp is near perfection. I usually dislike EL34s, but this thing makes me love'em. It also sounds great with low gain, medium gain, and high gain pickups, which I think is a rarity for amps that can do high gain. This thing makes my Dimarzio X2N sound great on the clean channel, which is saying something.

The moral of the story is that when you are going to buy gear, don't go into playing the equipment thinking you know what to expect. I should've bought this amp five years ago. With the great deals you can get from Sweetwater, it would've saved me money in the long run.

Covers the spectrum of Marshall amp sounds

By Rob from USA on September 26, 2018 Music Background: Amateur Musician

I've had this amp a few years now. It's truly remarkable. I can coax any Marshall sound I want out of it. For fun I setup my other amps and see if the JVM can get the same tone, sure enough, it can match everything I've tried (JTM45 using channel 1, SLP1959 using channel 2, JCM800 using channel 3, JCM900/TSL/DSL using channel 4).

The master volume is really what makes it though, no need for an attenuator (like my earlier Marshalls) to get great sounds.

It's the swiss army knife of amps. When they eventually release a new version, I have no idea how they could improve it (maybe adding in the Satch Version Noise Gates, but it's amazing as is).

I dreamed about buying this amp for years. Looking back, I should have bought it sooner.

Very Satisfied

By Ray Blanks from Wallingford, CT on June 7, 2018 Music Background: Professional guitarist.

I bought this head with a 1936 Vintage 2x12 cabinet. I was able to ditch the Overdrive pedals off my pedal and customize the four channels; Clean-Crunch-OD1 and OD2. The clean channel is crystal clear which I am happy about, having used Fender amps for years. NOTE: I bought and returned four different Fender amps to Sweetwater that all had issues. Not sure what's going on with Fender these days, but I needed reliability. This Marshall is built like a tank and looks amazing on stage too. Love it!

My Sales Engineer, Carson McClain, was very helpful as always in helping me to zero in on the right amp for me.

Lifetime Amp!!

By Brad from NC on April 8, 2018 Music Background: 25years

Just now tapping into its possibilities but this amp sounds incredible! Got the 1960a with it. Playing mostly with a 2017 Gibson SG standard HP and replicating all my favorite rock idols music and better. The pedal and settings are very cool. If you have the means, this amp will not disappoint. Ask to speak with Alex Campos, top notch service and he's extremely knowledgeable.

Most Amazing Amp Ever

By Bob Bradshaw from Colorado Springs, CO on August 24, 2015 Music Background: 30+ years performing in cover bands

I have been playing in cover bands for over 30 years and I have played through many brands of amps. This head is by far the best sounding amp I have ever played through. There is not one sound in my head that I cannot find within this amp. Playing everything from country to blues to rock, this amp covers it all. From the cleanest cleans to the dirtiest distortion imaginable, you simply can't find a better amp. My only problem with it is that it doesn't come with a cover. You would think for that much money they could throw in a cover.

Amazing!

By Jason H from TN on December 19, 2014

First and foremost, I have NEVER been a huge Marshall fan. I have had a multitude of amps throughout my playing history: Bogner, THD, Splawn, Dr. Z, Peavey, Vox, Orange to name a few of the more recent. And to be honest, I bought this amp strictly based on the amount of tonal ground it could cover. But I am simply in awe. The tones are great and the eq is so usable on this amp with rich reverb...it is perfect. The jvm410h responds so well to my playing style that it is truly better than what i had ever imagined it could be!

This Amp Does It All

By Carolyn Leanza from Aliso Viejo, CA USA on June 25, 2014 Music Background: Pro Musician's Mom

My adopted son who is a touring musician just loves this amp. He plays with several different bands and he can't say enough good things about it. We combined it with a 1960AV cabinet and it is the perfect half stack for anyone in his profession. I've never seen him happier so I guess I picked a winner!

Kicks Some Serious ***!

By Tyler from Michigan on April 16, 2014 Music Background: Student

I have always grown up listening to all these great players. I am 18 and got serious much too late at the age of 7. Before obtaining this amp from Marshall’s second run making them, I didn’t need to play a Marshall to know I was a Marshall guy. I had played many cheaper tube amps before seeing the JVM: Carvin, Budda, Orange, and nothing felt right.

I did what I had to in order to buy this head matched with a 1960AV cab. I can tell you that I carried this down my incredibly long driveway from the back of a semi parked in the road. I opened the box it came in and just its monstrous look had me astounded. This amp is truly the pinnacle of Marshall Amplification.

Most guitarists who see it wonder why I need so many channels each with 3 modes. The only answer is, "I use them…and all of them." Everything in this amp has a purpose, a place in the mix, its own vibe; classic or modern Marshall. I use the distortion it has, no pedals.

It took me until I was 15 years to know what head I wanted. It’ll take just as long for me to discover all its tonal possibilities. This amp is everything to me. It’s unbelievable! I highly recommend anybody interested in a high wattage British amp to check this baby out! It’s the pinnacle of Marshall Amplification…the PINNACLE!

Marshall JVM410H 100 Watt Tube Amp Head

By Art from Chicago, IL on July 29, 2013 Music Background: Member of Evolution Project

After using the Marshall DSL 100-Watt head for quite awhile and discovering all sorts of amazing tones, I decided to upgrade to the JVM 410H so that I could access many of those tones by means of a footswitch stomp. That kind of versatility is unmatched for live performances.

Great from John Gillespie!

It's got that Marshall sound.

Marshall JVM410H 100-Watt, 4-Channel Valve Guitar Amp Head

By Leonard Davila from Las Vegas, Nevada USA on October 12, 2012 Music Background: MUSICIAN: Lead Guitarist

In my opinion, this is the Best amp Marshall has come up with! Four channels to choose from with 3 levels for each (Red, Green, Yellow). This makes 12 different tones available through a programmable floor switch! I recommend this amplifier to ALL metal heads!
Simply AMAZING!

My main Guitar Rig---not your average Marshall...

By Jason from Nashville, TN USA on July 6, 2012 Music Background: Musician, Engineer, Recordist, Guitarist, Pianist, Keyboardist

THIS is the PINNACLE of Jim Marshall's developments. THIS thing has every marshall amp circuit, practically, that you could ask for. AND, unprecedented control via MIDI OR the normal guitar cable/footswitch. Imagine switching 12 different amps in or out, and THEN adding reverb and your own effects loop onto that when you need it. Well, you can do it.

I'm amazing at the variety of sounds that I can keep getting from this baby. Just when I think, "you know, I'll try the Matchless, or the Hiwatt, or the x or y", I always fall back to this one and I can generally coax the sound I want out of it. From the cleanest of clean (i'm constantly amazed how pristine and clean I can make this amp sound) to near ear splitting heavy distortion, this amp does it ALL. My review doesn't do it justice. I bought mine when it first came out, and I'm still discovering new things about it. It caught me off guard when I first plugged it in, cuz it is certainly much more complicated than most tube amps, but that's only because it has so much CONTROL, and you're basically using 12 preamps in one...

If you like Marshall tone (and even if you don't think you do), you owe it to yourself to check this baby out, but don't let the first impression sell you, go back again and again---it invites experimentation. Get down and dirty with the 410H!

smoking amp !!!!!!

By albert sewell from Memphis TN on May 3, 2012 Music Background: Musician

I am a Marshall guy----but this thing is a beast !!! The clean channel is as clear as a bell with lots of headroom...just a touch of chours and EQ and bam !! This amp is so eazy to work with and program...The high gain does have a bit of hiss---but a noise gate in the effects loop got rid of most of it....LOVE IT.....kudos to Marshall---4 channels and 12 modes !!! wow !!! The price tag may seem high, but this baby is earns it ----!!!

Two for Three

By Jay C. from TX on October 26, 2011 Music Background: Lots

Have owned two JVM410Hs (full stack & half stack) for three years. These Marshall's are every bit as good as a boutique Bogner XTC full stack (purchased four years ago). Both are excellent, with different tonal characteristics and choices. Noise gates are used on both in high gain modes. The JVM410H's serve up most of the past 40 years of Marshall sonic bliss; plus awesome cleans. The clean tones are so dynamic that a compressor is usually employed. Extra bonus: the emulated, balanced XLR line out delivers excellent clean signal and great tone straight to a recording system. If I had to limit myself to one guitar amp it would be the JVM410H.

Typical of Marshall

By Sahan Ulgen on March 17, 2018 Music Background: Sound engineer

I went through every review I could find about this and got really confused because some loved it and some hated it. It was a very risky buy for me but just wanted to see myself.
Ok down sides: on both od channels in the amber and red modes you can't go over 9 o'clock with the gain, it becomes very unusable uncontrolled and just too much in distortion. Guys looking for some room here won't find it. The stock tubes are so cheap and sound so muddy comparing to the ones I put. I put mullard reissue cv4004s in preamp and tung-sol el34 reissues in power amp and the amp's sound changed like day to night. So expect to spend dollars more. For rock players this is a great amp however for modern metal guys it just doesn't deliver without placing a bbe sonic stomp in the fxloop to clear the sound and boost some lows and highs. It is not tight enough for this type of music without this little pedal. So add dollars more:)
Good sides: it can sound definitely and exactly same as any jcm, 2555, 1987, and any super lead box with correct eq so it can do any type of plexi with no problem. I can say this with self confidence because I also have a 1987 and a 2555. For hard rock it definitely has that unique Marshall sound which we all love. The od channels are voiced very different so it serves you as two different amps. The clean channel is very impressive for Marshall, you won't expect such a great clean channel from marshall and it has tons of headroom. The amp's design is based on getting the signature sound mainly from preamp, not relying on pushing the power section. So you get almost the same sound at master volume in 9 o'clock position, you don't need to push it to the point that makes you deaf like other plexis. This was my favourite part of it. It is quite silent which made me surprised again. Way less noisy than any plexis. I found that xotic's sl drive fits great with this amp, using this pedal very mildly just adds some great tightness and aggression to it but you don't need to use the pedal heavily as in other plexis to reach a hi gain tone, the gain of the amp is enough itself.

I definitely recommend it to anyone who admires the tone of Marshall but can't afford to collect every type of plexis and also would like some hi gain rock tones that plexis are unable to deliver without pushed by a moderately driven od pedal in front. It is like all the marshall history in one box, and that statement is completely true, not a marketing gimmick. Again what you hear on youtube is definitely not what the real amp sounds as in all Marshall products. I started to think that this is done intentionally. So try it before buying, never rely on youtube for any marshall!

Killer Amp!!

Great amp. Very versatile. However, it had a tube fail after on;y 3 mos. I sent it down to Houston, TX to a guy called the tone doctor for re tube and some mods. It is now the most versatile and best sounding head I have ever owned.

Typical Marshall Junk

By Sweetwater Customer on June 18, 2017

I deeply regret purchasing this amp and then actually "giving it some time". Considering Marshall hasn't produced a decent amp in 25 years, this is no exception. This amp is so dull and muddy you can turn the treble and presence all the way up and it will still sound like it is being played behind a closed door. It sounds nothing at all like a tube amp - instead it sounds like a cheap transitor or modeling amp. I wouldn't wish this amp on my worsed enemy.

Am I just Marshall bashing? Heck no - I have the 2525 Jubilee combo and it's the best sounding amp I have ever heard in my life. That said, this is probably the worsed Marshall I ever heard in my life.
