This is a review of the Variax JTV-69 guitar, not Sweetwater. Sweetwater as usual has been excellent in trying to help me with my problems with this guitar (and the first one I bought and returned). First off, other than the Strat emulation, the other sounds are just okay, a few are just basically useless (banjo, sitar). You need to go thru a lot of work to get the models "volume balanced" so that you you can switch from one guitar emulation to another without noticeable jumps or drops in volume. It can be useful, just requires more work than I believe should be necessary. The real issue for me is the neck. It is really a piece of junk. When you pay full price for a guitar, return it for another one, and still have serious issues with string buzz, intonation, etc. it is the neck. My luthier has tried to help me numerous time with neck adjustments and a fret job but when the neck is setup with the strings at what would be considered proper height, every string buzzes up and down the neck. Even raising the string height to an almost unplayable height, there is still noticeable string buzz. The neck also does not stay in tune - not the tuners - but the neck itself swells and shrinks much more than a normal guitar. I live in Florida, play out every weekend and I am constantly fiddling with this thing. My Gibson and old Musicman (1978 Stinrgay) are very stable. This one, just a pain in the butt. Say yourself the trouble, find a different guitar. Sweetwater has lots of nice guitars, this one is not one of them.
