JTV-69 Sunburst

By Sweetwater Customer from Reno Nevada on March 6, 2018

Have had the JTV-69 Sunburst, SSS for about a year and it is the best! The magnetic pickups sound great and the on board guitar modeling is over the top. This guitar plays great and stays in tune all night long. I play a lot of open tuned songs live and this guitar makes open tuning in a live performance very quick and easy. Sweetwater set up the guitar to how I like to play and did it perfect. My sales rep Aaron Hoff did a fantastic job as always!

One fine songwriting tool

I have had the JTV-69 Sunburst, SSS for about a week and I love it. It is a little heavy but what you get out of it is nothing short of amazing.
I am primarily retired from the live playing scene...so now it's all about songwriting for me and this is the BEST tool for that. Sometimes a certain tone or sound will sweep you into a creative mood. Now I have so many sounds to delve into...I am seriously excited to see what comes to me.
I had a VG-88 system for the longest time (still do...but it is retired too) Setting it up and dialing a sound in could take so long the inspiration would slip away. I got to where just contemplating setting up a sound withered me. The Variax is a breeze...spin the dial...play with the tunings...it is all so easy.
I can't say enough about Sweetwater as far as working with me and getting me my new baby...
Thanks guys.
I never pictured myself ever buying a guitar without playing it first but your videos on how you do your 55 point inspections and reading reviews of other buyers gave me the courage to make the leap.
Happy Happy customer.

No. 1 Guitar

By Gary C. from Taylorville, Il. on March 9, 2014 Music Background: Full time player

I have had my James Tyler Variax (JTV-69 - 3Tone Sunburst SSS) since Christmas thanks to my lovely wife. This is by far the best playing guitar I have ever held in my hand. I have owned a couple of Fender Strats, Gibson Les Paul Custom and Gibson SG standard. None of these guitars play as well or have the same level of tone quality, and I'm only talking about the magnetic pickups. The on board electronics with guitar modeling makes this guitar soar over the others for gig playing musicians who cannot afford a stage full of guitars.

Thanks to James Tyler for the astronomic increase in quality over the original Line 6 Variax. I'm hooked!!!!!

My fingers are bleeding

Just got my white JTV-69S today. I can't put it down. I moved up from a Variax 700, and I can't believe the difference. I also own some high end Gibsons, Fenders, and PRSs. This guitar is my new favorite. Here's why...

The models are even better. I play this guitar through a POD HD500 and a Yamaha PA. The sound is amazing.

The magnetic pickups are very, very good. The tone approaches my Eric Johnson Strat, with just a bit more something that sounds good.

It feels like a custom made guitar. I have a custom shop Strat that has nothing on this guitar for playability and feel.

It is absolutely beautiful.

I might be shrinking my guitar collection soon. I'm not sure I need anything but this.

great guitar

a versatile and user friendly guitar. really enjoy using the features as well as playing without them.

Seriously incredible

By Peter Oberle from Canada on November 15, 2012

This is guitar redefined. Having all the effects and amps doesn't help if you have got the right guitar to plug in. The variax gives you 28 world class guitar models. To say they are good is an understatement. When you play an acoustic model of you bang on the body you hear the resonance like you hit a real acoustic. I love the resonator and tricone models! I am playing weekly in an acoustic group with my variax! The guitar itself is also excellent without the models.

line 6 JTV-69 SSS

I bought the gold version of this guitar about 6 mos ago. I love the guitar it plays wonderful & the sounds are really good too. my only complaint is....i don't understand why all these guitar companies are using "Duncan Designed" pickups in their guitars?? they are CRAP! On most gigs they are so noisy i can't use them, have to stay in the processor mode most of the time. I have a couple of Schecter guitars & its the same problem!!! I would gladly pay $$$ for these companies to use fender, or lace, or anyone that makes a good "noiseless" pickup & use them as their stock pickups. PLEASE guitar companies quit using (i know they do it cause they're probably cheap & keeps the prices down) these Duncan designed pickups!!!! They suck. Would rather pay more $$$ for a usable pickup...
Don't know what the differences are on the American made Line6 guitars, but over $2000 is an awful big jump in price?!?!?

Great instrument!

I'd give it 5 stars if:
1. it was lighter
2. Line Six made a tortoise pic-guard for the standard models
(USA only grrrr.....)
3. Acoustic sounds didn't splay when strummed very loudly.

Still - it's an awesome addition to my rig - makes it easy to get any sound without switching guitars.
