Complete Shred Machine

First - thanks to Aaron Smith and Sweetwater - I hadn't contacted him for about 2 years and when I expressed interest in buying this guitar he responded swiftly and was knowledgeable about all the financial options available. Working with Aaron is always a 5 star experience. I have wanted a JP6 since I discovered John Petrucci and saw his Mystic Dream JP6. Sweetwater's excellent financing finally allowed me to comfortably get one of my dream guitars. I have owned over 25 guitars (currently 11) and EBMM's build quality is among the best. They absolutely blow Fender and Gibson away in terms of build quality and fret work. The only other guitar I own that equals the build quality and perfection of my new JP6 is a G&L Custom Shop ASAT Deluxe. The stainless steel frets are perfect right from the factory. The last new Gibson SG I bought required a fret leveling and nut work before it played decently at all, so this EBMM experience is breath of fresh air. This thing is a shred machine - the wax / gunstock oil finish on the neck is silky smooth and the action allows effortless 6 string arpeggios up and down the neck. The piezo and crunchlab / liquifire combo sound excellent but the greatest part of this guitar, along with the neck, is the EXCELLENT floating tremolo. I have sold every Floyd equipped guitar I have ever owned out of frustration, but somehow EBMM was able to develop a tremolo with all the function of the Floyd but none of the headache. String change and set up is a breeze and you can't knock this thing out of tune. It has edged out the PRS tremolo as the best tremolo on the market. Lastly, the Mystic Dream finish is gorgeous and cannot be captured in a picture - coolest finish of all time. I can't say enough about this guitar - if you buy it, you will not be disappointed.

completely met my expectations

I have wanted a Music Man JP6 for a long time, and thanks to Sweetwater's great pricing and financing deal, I was finally able to get my dream guitar. I will say right off, this guitar is amazing, and everything I expected. Every detail of the workmanship is outstanding and it sounds & plays as well as I expected. This is an incredible guitar. The piezo pickup sounds better on stage than a real acoustic guitar, and all the switching is very logical. It gives me the ability to run the electromagnetic pickups through my normal rig, and run a separate line (for the piezo pickup) into a DI box into a separate channel on the board - which is very nice when you have to make quick switches from acoustic to electric sounds, or combining them into a very rich sound. This guitar does it all, and the mystic dream paint job is awesome. I'm very happy that I finally got a JP6!

Great in Everyday but...

Great guitar. Sound...check. Options...check. Comfort...check. Neck...where is my buzzer. I am only giving this a three star, not because of the neck but because of music man. I loved this guitar but the neck was a little thin for me. I like a beefier C shaped neck and just could not get used to this thin Ibanez Wizard neck...which is what it is. It literally caused my hand to cramp fretting on this neck so something had to give. I called Music Man and explained to them that I love the guitar, I just wanted a different neck. Told them I would pay what ever it cost to have them make me one and install it. They flat out told me No. I was surprised. They told me that this guitar was made to Petrucci's specs and he would not want them to change it. My reply was...Petrucci gets his guitars for free, you make your money off people like my who buy them, and besides, the chances of Petrucci playing my guitar was less than lottery odds. They told me sorry, we will not do that. I said sorry, I will not buy any more MM guitars. Sold it 2 days later.

Sweetwater Advice

Aaron Hoff

The versatility of the Music Man John Petrucci 6 is incredible. My band's most recent album consists of songs in multiple genres - from blues to progressive metal. We had tons of guitars to choose from, but the JP6 found its way onto nearly every track. It did more than provide crunchy rhythm parts and glistening leads - its piezo pickup was used in favor of an acoustic guitar on a ballad!
