One of the absolute finest instruments I have ever played. I don't own any high-end boutique customs, but I do own several Carvins - so I know what quality sounds, feels, and looks like.
I was initially hesitant to buy because I had played some of the Sterling JPs and was less than impressed (this is primarily the music store's fault for taking **** care to set up and maintain them, but nonetheless...). I also wasn't crazy about rosewood - a wood I feel is less classy than, say, ebony - on the fretboard. I was also a little bummed that the silver is the only color it comes in.
Well, needless to say, when I got the instrument and plugged her in for the first time, it was true love. The sound is unbelievable (I play through a Mesa/Boogie Mark V) the feel is incredible, the setup/intonation was dead on (I had to adjust the action to make it SUPER low how I like it). I just can't say enough good things about this guitar. Stainless steel frets? Awesome. Piezo? Awesome. New Illuminator pups? Awesome. Inlays? Flawless. Construction? Perfect. I literally can't think of one thing they could have done to improve this guitar. I'm sure the JP14 will address whatever issue THAT may be lol.
My only complaint, after living with her for a month or so, is that the case feels a little cheap - and it's also a fatter case than a regular electric guitar case. But it's serviceable so I don't mind.
I have several "NGD" threads at the Carvin BBS and sevenstring dot org - just search "decreebass" & "JP13" - I go into much finer detail and answer people's specific questions - more than I can do in this little space. I also have a TON of pics posted. The fretboard is absolutely gorgeous, despite my initial fears that the rosewood would be/feel/look cheap - it's actually quite rich and luxurious.
If you can swing the cost, don't hesitate like I did - just buy. If you need to sweet talk someone into letting you buy this; do it. If you need to borrow money from your grandmother to get this guitar, do it. If you need to kill.... wait, no don't kill - you can't have a JP13 in prison.
You owe it to yourself to buy this guitar. And you owe it to yourself to buy it from Sweetwater. Dylan took such good care of me - what an amazing sales team this company has. I will never buy something online from another online website if I can get it from Sweetwater.
