A Beast

Again Tyler Moore came through for me as well as the rest of Sweetwater. This is a beast super comfortable to play just strap it on and hold on for the ride. Being a big Jeff Loomis fan I had researched this guitar for awhile. When it arrived I was blown away the neck is fast and thin and plays incredible. Schecter knocked this one out of the park. This might be number 16 for me but it is clearly my number 1. Remember if Sweetwater doesn't have it you don't need it.

JL6 Highlights

Some background first on me...I own more than 6 guitars, including a Jackson SL1 and Ibanez RG570, so I have something to make some legitimate comparisons against. (The Jackson has stock SD pickups, the Ibanez has all upgraded SD pickups). I also own several amps, including a Marshall JCM2000, Mesa Boogie Mark V and H/K Grandmeister 36, all of which have their own sound and personalities. Now, the JL6. I pre-ordered it because I was looking for a black guitar with a maple neck, and didn't want a Strat (prefer the dual humbucker design for my preference in rock/metal). I did not buy it because it was an artist signature model; I could care less and normally avoid that like the plague. I didn't "need" another guitar, but most of you reading this already know that really has no relation to our pretense for guitar acquisition. Anyhow, it arrived yesterday and I put a few hours on it so I figured I would share my experience for anyone that is considering this model. First, I've never owned or played a Schecter guitar, but like the designs they make so I figured "WTH". The guitar is made in S Korea, build quality is excellent. Probably better than I expected. The neck is straight as an arrow, smooth and fast. I had to lower the action on the Floyd Rose, but that is probably more personal preference than a negative. It only has a volume knob and 3 way switch: no tone which leads to the pickup review. The SD pickups are active, and the hottest and yet noisiest I've ever played. My normal settings on the Marshall and Mesa with my pedal board were not happy at all with these pickups. My EVH5150 pedal hated them. The H/K liked them the most and sounded respectable, bypassing the pedal board entirely and just using its internal effects. The bridge pickup is serious gain/metal, and after a few hours that's all I was playing. I never found a setting where the neck pickup was useful, mostly because it is muddy and too much low end. I assume I will end up changing at least that one out. Right now it's not a deal breaker, as the rest of the guitar is solid and easy to play. Hope this helps!
