Keyboard Bass and the JJP Bass plugin:
As a keyboard player in a recording duo, I do all the instrumental parts and drum programming (Superior). I can get decent bass guitar sounds out of the Motif and Kontakt. The bass is there in the mix, but it was never what I would consider ‘inspiring’. Well, after all it is a keyboard and not a real bass guitar. I’ve literally spent days tweaking Guitar Rig, trying various compressors, twiddling the EQ’s and all sorts of Gizmo-Fizzo’s but I’ve never really nailed a bass sound that had the heart and soul of the real thing.
I’m kinda leery of a ‘one box fits all’ FX plugs. However, the JJP Bass nailed it. I can hear the pick in proper proportion to the string tone. I get the bottom end and the air and it sounds real, not artificial. Now I have a realistic bass sound that I think will compete with anything out there, plus I can tweak it to sound great in minutes with the JJP Bass plug in.
