Versatile, well built, a joy to play

Some instruments are so good, that you can forget about the details and use it as a tool for exploration and learning. Usually, it happens with an instrument that you've had for several years, or with custom-made, rare, expensive instruments, but this Jazz Bass is an exception. I've had this bass for about seven months, and I find it really amazing; It looks good, it sounds good, it feels good, it teaches me. It only needed a trip to the tech for adjustment, to let its potential shine. It's true that you can upgrade some pieces of the hardware in order to improve it, there is no urgent need for it. For the price, it's completely unbeatable.

    Exceeded my expectations

I have had several fretless basses over many years, and this bass plays as well as any.For the money,it can't be beat. The ebanol fretboard seems really effortless, and has the sound I expect,at a very low price.I did install Duncan pickups, and a Leo Quan bridge, but at this price, you can afford to modify at whatever level you want,or leave it stock,it's still a great buy.I'm really pleased with this bass.

    Best Bass I've Owned

Just as I said in the title, it's easily the best bass I've ever owned. And I've owned my fair share of basses.
Now, this bass is just perfect for my needs. I play in my school's Jazz band and marching band, and I'm a solo musician. That being said, I play Jazz, Funk, Swing, Rock, Metal, and Grunge. This bass handles it all with great results. Just tweak your knobs and EQ on your amp a bit and you can get any sound. Even my band director admits that it's just as good as his USA Fender Jazz.

The pickups are amazing, the construction is incredible, it looks spectacular, and I couldn't ask for a better instrument. Better jump on this deal before Fender realizes they can just re-brand this instrument and sell it for 3x the price.

Playing forever, some recording, Should be better than I am....for as long as I've played!

    Fantastic value

I've wanted to get a fretless bass for a long time, but couldn't justify the expense. I noticed this one sometime ago and mentioned it to my wife when she asked for a Christmas list. I really wasn't looking for it on Christmas morning, but was really surprised. I have enjoyed it so much. I bought flat wound strings to replace the round wound, but haven't put them on yet because it sounds so good. This is such a good value. I started playing in the '70s when you either had a Fender or Gibson, or it was crap. This cost the same as my first Gibson EBO I bought in '72 and half as much as my Gibson Ripper I bought in '76. I can't play as much I would like, but now I can kill an hour before I realize it. I haven't touch my other two basses since Christmas! I can't imagine that the $1800 Jaco Fender being $1500 dollars "better" than this one. If it is, I better not touch one.

    Awsome Bass at any price

I did my research for a fretless bass at a price I could afford. When I saw this bass My first reaction was that it is just a Jaco clone. It is and with great respect to an amazing player, if Jaco were alive he might just have one. Tone is the key here, and the Squire has it.... A truckload of it! Now every Wood based instrument has it's own sound but overall my bass sounds awesome. I swapped out the roundwound strings for flats and it did effect the high end some but the tone knob can fix some of that and it does very well. It would be nice to have instructions on cleaning and care of the fingerboard and as usual Fender should think about building their bridge plates a little thicker maybe going as far as making future basses stringthru for more sustain and even more tone. THANKS Fender for a truly SWEET BASS
