Fender's "Deluxe" Jazz Bass Redesigned and Refined

The Fender Standard Jazz Bass has been time-tested and musician-approved. Leo Fender designed and built the world's first electric bass guitar in late 1951 and every electric bass made since then is unquestionably a direct descendent. But Leo was never satisfied, so in 1960, he introduced the "deluxe model" Fender Jazz Bass. So inspired was that design that it has changed little over the years in appearance, though its evolution continues today with the 4-string Standard Jazz Bass. A shielded body cavity for quieter operation and a pair of pickups with surprising tonal versatility make the Fender Standard Jazz bass a smart buy.

Fender Standard Jazz Bass 4-string Electric Bass Guitar at a Glance:
  • Lightweight, "offset waist" alder body
  • Maple neck with modern "C" shape
  • Dual, single-coil Jazz Bass pickups in a shielded body cavity
Lightweight, "offset waist" alder body

Bass guitars are big and that can mean heavy, too. Not so with the Fender Standard Jazz Bass. It comes with the distinctive "offset waist" alder body, which is resonant but relatively light. You'll appreciate after grooving for two or three hours up on stage.

Maple neck with modern "C" shape

Leo Fender wasn't actually a guitar player, so he didn't really know that guitars weren't supposed to have maple necks. Eventually, the blond maple necks became a Fender trademark. This standard Jazz Bass has a nicely balanced maple neck with a modern "C" shape.

Dual, single-coil Jazz Bass pickups in a shielded body cavity

Fender's early electric basses had just one pickup. So naturally, if one was good, two was even better. The Standard Series Jazz Bass has two single-coil Jazz Bass pickups in a shielded body cavity for quieter operation, both on stage and in the studio.

Fender Standard Jazz Bass 4-string Electric Bass Guitar Features:
  • Iconic Jazz Bass design with two single-coil pickups
  • Offset-waist body design is comfortable to wear and play
  • Lightweight alder body is resonant, yet lightweight even during long gigs
  • Individual volume controls let you balance the pickups perfectly to your taste and style
  • Shielded body cavity helps provide low-noise performance

The Fender Standard Jazz Best is still a musician favorite!NOTE: This product is available in the United States only - no international sales.

Wow! Wow! Wow!

I have never really been a Jazz Bass player. I've owned a few that played and sounded ok, but I just did not dig the Jazz Bass in general. I initially bought a Ray34 bass, but did not like it at all and sent it back. My sale engineer Brian Kearns was really helpful and sent me a return label as soon as I asked him to. I decided to order this bass and I am not disappointed. The fit and finish is excellent and sound is great! My bandmates said that this bass sounds the best out of all the other basses I have played (P Basses, Schecter, and Ibanez) in the band. I was really impressed with the set up of this bass. The action is really low and plays very easy without fret buzz. The neck is nice and straight and the feel is excellent. The intonation is dead on and I did not have to do anything to the bass to get it where I like it. The candy apple red is beautiful and I have had many comments on this bass at gigs. This bass plays better than my MIA P-Bass that I recently sold. If anyone is on the fence about buying a piece of gear from Sweetwater don't be. The basses come ready to play and in a timely manner and the customer service is really top notch. I have two basses (this MIM J Bass and a Squier CV P-Bass) and my bass rig (GK MB500 and Mesa/Boogie 2x10 Cab) that I bought from Sweetwater and they are all keepers. Thanks Sweetwater!!!

Great Bass!

I was shocked when I received this bass from Sweetwater. It was perfectly set up, no dead spots, low action, no fret buzz. I put TI-Jazz Flats on it and it plays like a dream. Not heavy, good sustain, holds tuning well and the antique Fender Style tuners are smooth and fluid acting with no slop. My 1964 Fender Bass I bought in 1974 were hard to turn and would bind in places. This bass's Fit and Finish is impeccably good. Before you think " This is get it , play it an hour and make a review", I can tell you I have bought Fender basses from other places that were not this good. I have had this one for almost 7 months now. I don't know if after their inspection and testing if they don't meet their standards they send them back or what but I can tell you, I have Never bought a bass online before that was such a Gem. Love it!

Great Bass!

Unbelievable! Fit, Finish, action and setup very good! A little brighter than the Fender Standard FSR Jazz Bass have and Fender American Special Jazz Bass I owned but sadly had to sell. The slightly brighter tone is probably due to the maple neck/fretboard compared to the Rosewood Fretboard the other two have. This does help it to cut through. The pickups are much nicer sounding than most of the Fender Standards I have had. I thought I would not find a bass that felt and sounded as good as the American Special again, that is until I got this one. I put TI Jazz Flats on this bass and it is a pure joy to play. I was surprised the vintage style bridge is better made than others I have owned. I have always hated the vintage tuning keys even on an original 1964 Precision Bass I once owned and on the Fender American Special as some were rough feeling and harder to turn and I was sure I would be replacing them on this bass. NOT SO...these turn nicely and easy to tune. I am very happy!
