Every tone setting a winner and put together with thought.
This is the 3rd Fender Bass that I bought from Sweetwater and I would like to thank Mark Stein and the others for their attention to service.
I bought the Blackie version and it was shipped virtually in tune and the pickup height, intonation and bridge were set up perfectly and all that I had to do was tighten the truss rod a bit and lower the action to my liking.
I used to have a 1972 Telecaster bass with the large Fenderbucker neck pu and I later modified it by having it routed out and placing a p bass pickup close to the bridge in order to bring out the definition and highs and as usual this was another great sounding bass that I let go of and never should have. But on the flip side of this sad story I got it all back in this Blacktop J bass.
This is a powerful Bass, the pickups are strong and solid in any combination or alone and I could not be more pleased with the fit and finish. This is a real quality MIM product and sometimes I think that a unit like this should only inspire Fender USA management to stay on top of their quality control in order to justify their higher prices.
I have been playing professionally since the early 1970's and I hope that the players that read this review realize that I am real fussy about tone and if you are as well, this very unique version of a Fender Bass is a great buy and it is something that will open up your ears and inspire you to pick it up and play it.
