A Jazz Bass for the Modern Player

Fender's American Elite Jazz Bass provides players with a classic bass that's updated for modern playing styles. You'll get the familiar round lows and clear top end that Jazz Basses are known for, without the 60-cycle hum thanks to a pair of fourth-generation Fender Noiseless single-coil pickups. An 18-volt active preamp adds a 3-band EQ and an active/passive switch. And features like a 9.5"-14" compound-radius fretboard make these J Basses effortless to play. The Fender American Elite Jazz Bass propels one of the most popular workhorse basses of all time into the future.

Fender American Elite Jazz Bass at a Glance:

  • Neck designed with you in mind
  • The quality is in the details
Familiar tones with a twist

Onboard the American Elite Jazz Bass is a duo of Fender's fourth-generation Noiseless J Bass single-coil pickups. These designs deliver the Jazz Bass's familiar punch and warmth, but the Noiseless circuitry eliminates unwanted signal noise and hum, making the bass ideal for live performance and recording. The 3-band active preamp adds a wide range of tonal control with a switch to go passive if you so choose. And the alder and maple construction with a rosewood fingerboard is a tried-and-true combination that has proven itself over decades.

Neck designed with you in mind

Fender Jazz Basses have been known for their iconic neck profiles since their introduction. Narrower and faster than a traditional P-style neck, they are a favorite of countless bassists worldwide. The American Elite Jazz Bass continues the tradition with a comfortable contour that morphs from a "C" to "D" profile as you move up the neck. And the 9.5"-14" compound fretboard radius ensures comfort whether you're holding down the low end or delivering melodic statements higher on the frets. This neck gives you the feel of a well broken-in bass as soon as you open the case.

The quality is in the details

Whether you play sitting or with one strapped over your shoulder, Sweetwater bassists are sure you'll appreciate the comfort of the American Elite Jazz Bass's belly and arm contours. A Fender HiMass vintage-style bridge anchors the strings either through the body or in a top-load configuration. And adjusting the neck relief couldn't be easier because of the truss rod adjustment wheel located at the butt end of the neck. But because of a pair of Posiflex graphite support rods, you'll rarely have to worry about this ultra-stable neck.

Fender American Elite Jazz Bass Features:
  • Upgraded 4-string American Jazz Bass
  • Vintage-style 4th-generation Fender Noiseless pickups
  • Active 3-band EQ opens up your tonal options
  • An active/passive switch is a lifesaver if your battery dies
  • Ideal 9.5"-14" compound-radius fretboard
  • Comfort belly and arm contours
  • Butt-end located truss rod adjustment wheel
  • Bone nut
  • Includes strap locks and adjustment wrenches
The Fender American Elite Jazz Bass is a workhorse bass for today's 4-string players.

Fender Elite Jazz Bass

I must first say... your shipping is the best. The Jazz bass is a great instrument. It is easier to play then my Ric 4003. The craftsmanship of this instrument is an 11 out 10!

Best bass I have owned/played

I have been playing bass professionally for 22 years now. Never have I owned a bass that responds like this does in a live situation. I have been looking for that extra oomph out of my current American Jazz bass (2009 passive), and without any compromises (looks, feel, etc.) this bass takes the cake. I am extremely pleased with the passive mode as well as the active. In most basses when you back off the neck pickup you lose a ton of low end. Somehow Fender figured out how to keep these pickups sounding beefy no matter what position you choose. The bass in passive mode is so great that you wonder how it could get any better, and then boom, you switch to active and you have anything you could want or need. I love that the bass knob does not cloud the other frequencies, and the treble knob is not harsh at all. These are VERY useable. Also, the mid boost is great for when you want to take that lead up a notch. I love it! The playability is that of a perfect '67 jazz bass. I played one in the studio a couple months ago and this, with the bound neck and great action is the closest comparison, but with so much more flexibility. I could sell all of my other stuff and just use this, but let's not get crazy now. GREAT JOB FENDER!!!

Great Bass!

I've had several days with this bass now, and I have to say I'm quite impressed. Before this, I have only owned Japanese and Mexican made Fenders (although I do have other American made basses). I have to say the American Elite is head and shoulders above those in terms of build quality and attention to detail. Every part of this bass seems to be top quality, and with the addition of the new N4 electronics, I don't think there's anything a player would want to change about it. The new pre-amp is really subtle and very musical. Unlike other pre-amps I have used, cranking any of the knobs doesn't result in a tone that is too boomy or harsh. This bass sounds great either active or passive and there's no hum with one pickup soloed. There is a wide range of tones available here.So top notch construction and great tone. What more could you ask for?
Music background: Been playing 20+ years

Love this Bass Bass

I'm not a professional, but.. It's a beautiful bass... Awful high price for me. I love it.. Oh yeah..Sweetwater I got to choose the one I wanted from home...With their gallery view I could look at it.. And i could pick the darker Rosewood, that's what I like..So that's good,Well that's why I bought it from Sweetwater.

Sweetwater Advice

Derek Senestraro

This Fender American Elite Jazz Bass is fantastic! I've played it in a church worship group, and its big, full, round, rich tone just fits and in context. I was amazed by how much of an upgrade it is from my regular bass.
