Excellent! I'm done!
I bought an American Standard Jazz and liked it. But I wanted more oomph, so I traded it back to Sweetwater for an American Standard Precision, which I loved! BUT, it made only one sound, the oomph sound, and after a month of playing my left arm was a painful wreck, like tennis elbow. The neck was too big and wide for my 5'10" skeleton and average sized hands. Playing walking bass below the 5th fret did me in. So I traded the bass back to Sweetwater, knowing my aching tendons liked the Jazz bass neck. This time I went for the gold, the American Deluxe, black with maple neck. Right out of the box the bass was perfect. The set up is perfect and I see room to set the action lower than I could on the Am. Std. The sound in passive has more oomph and bark than the Am Std. Then when you switch to Active mode it's just a whole new world with lots of muscle. The intonation is perfect, the neck is fast and slim, the details of quality are perfect and I couldn't be happier. No more trading looking for the "my" bass, I'm done.
Thank you to Sweetwater for allowing me to trade-in gear, thank you to my rep Michael Eads for working patiently with me and giving me the most fair deal possible. And, I want to point out that when Sweetwater gets a trade-in guitar, they go over it with a fine tooth comb. Their standards are very high and they look at these guitars with a magnifying glass. Which means you can trust Sweetwater. I sure do.
