It doesn't get better than this - only more expensive

I recently took delivery of one of these gems from Sweetwater. I'm always somewhat uneasy buying an instrument unseen. But this product was a bigger pleasant surprise than most. If you're looking for a Jazz Bass, this is an excellent choice. Because it looks, plays, and sounds like a "real" Jazz Bass. A really good one. About the only two things I can see that separate it from its American cousins is the fact there's a Squire rather than Fender logo on the headstock - and it's missing a "1" in front of that $379 on the price tag. And I must admit that I like this JazzB more than many American models I've owned and/or played over the years. Tuning machines, electronics, finish, and pickups were all nicely done. The bass arrived quickly and was securely packed. It was in perfect condition and required zero setup out of the box. And it was almost perfectly in tune as well - which was a first for me! I did have some misgivings about ordering a silver bass. I'm more the natural or sunburst type myself. And I wondered just how "silver" that silver was going to be. Well, it turns out it's really more an antiqued pewter sort of silver color. And that off-white pickguard makes for a really pleasing contrast. All in all, its a lovely looking bass. And while it's true that the way something sounds is what's really important, there's nothing to say an instrument shouldn't look good as well. Well...rest assured this bass looks great. When I originally ordered, I did so with the intent to mod this bass once it arrived. My plan called for a set of Fender CS 60s pickups, and maybe a 62-style stacked control set. But as it turns out, after playing it for a few weeks, I like it just the way it is. And so has everyone I've played it with. So other than changing the strings over to my preferred brand, I think I'll just keep it as is. Shopping for a Jazz Bass? Give this one a try. You won't regret it.

good bass 4 years later

Bought mine 4 years ago mine is White. I always set my instruments up myself-- the neck needed straightening. Neck was slightly unstable and it took a number of attempts with the allen wrench before the neck stopped shifting. Then it sat for about 4 years in a gig bag. After 4 years I just pulled it out of the gig bag and it needed another slight tightening of the truss with the allen wrench. The neck has stabilized over the years and the bass is very very nice. I think it plays ok but my pickups sound a little flat and lame. It takes talent to dial in a tone as each pickup has a volume knob and there is a master tone. It is also a little bit heavy in weight I dont believe the basswood used is of particularly high quality. The bridge is awesome very stable and solid and the saddles are brass- mine have tarnished already giving it a vintage look. Looking to play this bass and use it as my #1 beater through a TC 450 Classic head into a Epifani Performance Series 15 inch cab with a 1 inch horn. Also own a 2012 Gibson SG Standard bass and a vintage Fernandes P-bass and a 1970 Univox copy of a Hofner modded with vintage EMG single coil P-bass pickups.
