This 3-way Coaxial Monitor Sounds Amazing

If you demand the utmost in precision, the Kali Audio IN-8 is amongst the most accurate studio monitors in its price range. In fact, it stands up to speakers that far exceed the modest price tag. The IN-8 unveils every detail in your mix — it’s brutally honest. Nothing is boosted or attenuated to mask flaws or spice up its sound — what you hear is what you get. In addition to a ruler-flat frequency response, the IN-8 exhibits negligible levels of distortion, ample headroom, and impressive low-end extension for an 8” speaker. This speaker’s coaxial design boasts directivity that surpasses any non-coaxial speaker, enveloping your entire room in a uniform soundstage. Its low-noise port tube yields clean, punchy bass. And it sounds great in a myriad of environments, thanks to its boundary compensation EQ. The IN-8 includes an integrated Class D power amp, along with balanced XLR and TRS inputs, and an unbalanced RCA input. At the end of the day, you need a studio monitor that you can trust — and the Kali Audio IN-8 delivers on all fronts.

Transparent sound reproduction for mixes you can trust

The IN-8 offers ultra-transparent sound reproduction, enabling you to hear every detail of your mix. This starts with an exceptionally accurate frequency response — there’s nothing hyped about this speaker. Its dual-layer, large-diameter voice coil exhibits a crystal-clear sound with negligible distortion — a full 6dB lower than its nearest competitor. At continuous reference-level output, the IN-8 boasts at least 20dB of headroom to allow for transient spikes. What’s more, this studio monitor employs larger magnets and voice coils than others in its class, resulting in super-accurate low-end response and impressive low-frequency extension. At Sweetwater, we’ve found that the IN-8 empowers you to mix with confidence. Once you dial it in on a set of these monitors, it will sound great everywhere.

Coaxial design yields rock-solid imaging

With a typical 2-way studio monitor, its woofer and tweeter produce energy at the same time, creating an interference pattern at the speaker’s crossover point. Waveguides are generally employed to reduce the interference; however, the speaker still produces a directivity anomaly because the two drivers are in two separate positions. The Kali Audio IN-8’s coaxial high- and mid-frequency drivers, on the other hand, occupy the same space. This puts them within a quarter wavelength of one another, thereby eliminating this interference pattern. The IN-8 exhibits superb directivity — better than any non-coaxial design — covering your entire room uniformly. What’s more, the IN-8’s optimized-profile midrange driver boasts more radiating surface than a standard waveguide, ensuring minimum distortion and maximum dynamic range.

Low-noise port tube exhibits clean, punchy low end

One of the IN-8’s most novel features is its low-noise port tube. Many port tubes emit turbulence, as air leaves the tube at different speeds from different points of the opening. This turbulence produces chuffing — a noisy sound that obscures the low-end details of your mix. The IN-8’s port tube, on the other hand, ensures that all of the air exits at the same velocity. The end result is clean, punchy bass with zero added noise.

Boundary EQ ensures optimal sound in any environment

A speaker’s position in a room drastically affects its frequency response. Even if your room is acoustically treated, your studio monitor’s sound will change if you place it near a wall or on a desk. What’s more, hard surfaces like walls and the top of your console will skew your monitor’s frequency response, degrade its sound, and give you false auditory information. The engineers at Kali Audio understand this, and they baked a solution directly into the IN-8 — its Boundary EQ. Tuned to perfection at The Village Studios in Los Angeles, the IN-8’s Boundary EQ supplies you with presets that are tailored to eight common speaker placements. You also get LF/HF trims for fine-tuning the speaker’s response. With the IN-8, you’ll be able to optimize its response, no matter what environment you’re mixing in.

Kali Audio IN-8 8inch powered monitor

My kali's were just delivered a few days ago. Wow!!! They are so awesome. My mixes are coming out much better. These are the best mixing monitors I've ever had. A friend of of mind (moe) boasted on them so much until I had to get me a pair. No regrets, I am 100% satisfied with my purchase.

so let me begin by saying these things are amazing!!! Should've went with these in the first place. So I bought the adam audio t8v and they had a few issues. Main problem was cosmetic they got these weird creases on the actual body of the speaker and it happened to both of them also they would cut out at higher volumes. So I returned them. I went with these 3 ways and wow they literally blow the t8v out the water for a 100 more each well worth it. The clarity, mids and low end punch is incredible. They are huge compared to the adam t8v im assuming due to the bottom front ports. I seen alot of reviews about the hiss which there is but u literally have to put your ear to the speaker to hear it and its only when no sound is coming through. Besides that these are a1 definitely worth the money. U only get a 1 year warranty through kali but sweetwater gives u 2 so thats coo. These kali's can really handle power no problem and no distortion. I seen another complaint about mixes due to the overblown midrange but I haven't had that issue these are crispy on the highs mids fit right in. Overall these are worth every penny. If your up in the air about these just do it.

Simply incredible separation and clarity. Accurate, flat and detailed with negligable hiss at 3 feet

The mid clarity in these monitors is beyond stunning and EASILY sounds like they are three times the price. You can literally see into your mix of what needs to be fixed instantly like with much more expensive 3 ways; the overall clarity is off the chain. They are much better than my old JBL LSR4328P monitors, WAY bigger sweet spot, much much more clarity and detail in the mids and highs (where it counts). Bass response is tight, deep and slamming as it should be. They are also much more detailed in the highs/mids than my Focal Alpha 80 and again, the IN-8s sweet spot is much bigger. The most shocking thing to me is that they're totally on par with my main monitors - Dynaudio LYD 48 which are 3 times the price.

The "HISS" everyone is complaining about is ridiculously negligible, at 3 feet away its about 100 times more quiet than your A/C blowing into the room through the ceiling. You have to quietly sit there and concentrate like Mahatma Gandhi meditating in order to juuuuuuuust baaaaaarley hear it at 3 feet. I don't know if KALI fixed the issue or just made it better but the hiss is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. The only way you can hear any actual hiss is by sticking your ear directly into the coaxial mid driver; yes, then there's a teeny tiny low hiss but I don't mix records down with my ear jammed in the mids of my monitors, I do it 3 feet away behind my mixing desk.

For the price compared to performance, these are the best monitors in the World at the moment. They sound like a $2,500 pair of monitors so... it's an absolute no brainer buy if you're on a budget. You will not get better clarity for $... a pair period the end.

Amazing Clarity and Separation

After a few years of owning a pair of Equator Audio D5's (also coaxial monitors) I decided to upgrade to these. Going from 2-way to 3-way made a huge difference and I was curious if, at the price point, these would be as clear as my equators.

The clarity is great and the biggest plus side so far has been the depth on the frequency response. I ran a tone generator to see how low of a frequency these were producing. Got down to 28hz.

My biggest concern was that people said these hiss audibly. If I really listen from my mix position (nearfield) while no music is playing I can pick out a very faint hiss, but it's not bothersome to me whatsoever. Once I get a pair of monitor stands to move these in a better spot in my room I suspect I may not even tell.

10/10 would highly recommend these. I'll be curious to see what the Kali sub can add.
