  • All-analog pedal design delivers smooth, natural-sounding overdrive
Hot mode kicks your amp into overdrive

There are two footswitches on the Hot-Rod Plexi. One simply turns the box on in Stock mode - it's as if you're plugged into the signal path of a stock '68 Plexi from input jack to speaker jack (minus the actual speaker). Stomp on the Hot button, however, and prepare yourself for some British stack mayhem - it's like you put an additional 12AX7 tube in your amp's preamp stage. Utilizing Hot mode, you can add up to 28dB of additional preamp gain, with independent level control via the Hot knob. The Hot knob really lights a fire under your amp, taking it from an agreeable crunch to a furious eruption with a single stomp.

Extensive tone-shaping lets you nail the perfect sound

Because of its flexible tone-shaping capabilities, this box should be called the "Flexi-Plexi." The Tone control is a lowpass filter with an adjustable cutoff frequency. Flat when turned fully up, you can use the Tone control to cut your high-end, all while retaining your midrange - kill the fizz, keep the power. The Punch knob boosts or cuts at 500Hz, gradually varying the bandwidth, depending on the amount of boost or cut applied. Balanced midrange response is essential for achieving a satisfying distorted tone, even when you're going for a brutal "scooped" sound.

All-analog pedal design delivers smooth, natural-sounding overdrive

As impressive as the Hot-Rod Plexi's tonal range may be on its own, it's even more amazing that all of this tone-shaping takes place purely in the analog domain. This imparts a smoothness and natural dynamic character that even the most sophisticated digital pedals often struggle to capture. Built on the legacy of the now-legendary SansAmp, the Hot-Rod Plexi delivers the authentic sound of a preamp pushed to its limit - no gimmickry necessary!

Tech 21 Hot-Rod Plexi Distortion and Boost Pedal Features:
  • Based on SansAmp technology for organic tube amp distortion character
  • Hot mode kicks your amp into overdrive, delivering generous amounts of preamp gain
  • Tone control cuts your high-end without butchering your mids
  • Punch control balances your guitar's midrange response for a killer tone
  • Drive control for adjusting overall amount of gain and overdrive
  • All-analog pedal design delivers smooth, natural-sounding tube character

Best Plexi Ever!

First thing I notice of the Hot Rod Plexi is that as soon as you plug the link cables, the pedal lights up. It's a great feature because it tells you immediately if the battery is good or not. The version has the Punch knob that simulates a more tighter speaker all the way to a full speaker cab. I always use it between 7 & 11 o'clock. The tone shaves or add treble and you can make it bright or dark and warm as if it was a JTM45. The Hot Booster is pre-gain adding more warmth to your gain as if you added another tube. But the one thing that has made this pedal my main weapon is how well it simulates a Plexi. The dam thing doesn't sound like a pedal. It's more like a Plexi amp. I opened the hood and there is basically nothing in there. How in the world Andrew Barta made this possible. Same thing happens with the Sans Amp pedal. You open the hood and there is basically nothing in there. There is no doubt in my mind that Andrew used the same technology he used on the Sans Amp pedal. So if you are searching a Plexi pedal that can simulate the most favorite amp of all time, you won't go wrong with the Hot Rod Plexi. Trust me. I plug it in with my Fender 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb on the first channel, section 2 and it's so sweet. You will have versatility with this pedal. I love it so much I plan to buy another one for backup just in case. The casing is awesome too. It's kind of black with a beautiful glitter paying tribute to the legendary Plexi. Buy it. Plug it. Tweak it and get familiarized with it. Give it a chance. Most of the times my punch knob is at 7 & 9. Sometimes more than that. Gain is usually at 12 & 2 o'clock. The Tone at 2 & 3. Of course everything will depend how you set up you amp box. Since I changed my speaker for a Creamback 65, my amp has become a little more bright, so I just add a little treble and more bass. Put everything at 12 on your amp and start there. I set the volume of the amp and pedal at the same level. Trust me. Your gonna love the dam thing.

Hot Rod Plexi

Love this thing! If your after that Plexi sound then this is it! Wish they would also do a 45, if I had the chose I would go with a 45 over a plexi. Anyway this one is great, amazing!

Great at low gain

Funny enough I've had it for a bit more than a year without really using it. It sounded thin to me.I tried it lately at low gain with a boost in front of it and wow...quite a revelation. It sounds better than my ts808 or any of my many overdrives. Super clear and smooth. Brilliant.

good pedal does exactly as advertised

Never have been a big fan of distortion pedals. My last pedal lasted 10 minutes before I sold the unit. After reading reviews and watching video figured I would give this one a try. I use it with EVH 5150 iii head and in conjunction with the clean channel, you can truely turn the amp into a 3 channel amp. The controls are sensitive giving you a flexibiltiy to shape the sound both in tone and grit. Fairly quiet until pushed. It has definitely found a home on my pedal board

The best yet!

I was very reluctant to purchase, aster hours of listening to demo's I figured I had to have it. I am very impressed and very surprised by it's authenticity to a Plexi tone. The best part is the boost switch. Playing in a band that demands different types of distortion and blistering guitar leads that need to cut through, this will definitely fit the bill and reduce clutter on my pedal board.
