    Amazing

Although I was not overly impressed with the quality from the Digi 192, I decided to forgo the third party I/O option and "buy in" to the Avid hype that this was a completely redesigned next-generation interface and not simply a re-branded 192 and I'm glad that I did. Although I've not A/Bed this unit with the new Apogee Symphony and upper end gear like Meitner, etc, I can say it's EXTREMELY quiet, very transparent, and a huge step up from their previous generation interfaces!

    ALL IN THE IMAGING

my 192 and XMON had operated flawlessly for seven years. when the XMON finally winked out i decided to also replaced my 192 with an HD I/O as a preventative move. my main concern in making the changeover was getting tangled in all the sometimes esoteric in/out settings, something i handn't had to touch since the initial configuration. of course, the new unit slipped in seamlessly and all was well, immediately. but what really improved was the imaging. compared with the 192 it's like a few asymmetrical layers of gauze were peeled away to reveal an infinitely more concise soundstage, making mixing a real pleasure. sensitivity to small moves in eq and dynamics were also suddenly and profoundly more intelligible. the HD I/O also runs cooler and quieter than the 192. how the it compares to other brands i can't say, but in terms of AVID's progress since the awkwardly pronounced DIGIDESIGN days, feel free upgrade with confidence.
