Classic Explorer with Modern Advancements

The Gibson Explorer 2017 HP takes the essence of the classic 1958 Explorer and adds modern Gibson advancements for progressive players. An ultra-comfortable SlimTaper neck will have you playing like never before. G Force automatic tuning makes it easy to experiment with alternate tunings and is great for fast tune-ups between songs. And a Plek Pro fret treatment ensures precise playability, intonation, and tone. Finally, a pair of 500T and 496R pickups gives the Gibson Explorer 2017 HP a tone that cannot be ignored.

Gibson Explorer 2017 HP Solidbody Electric Guitar at a Glance:
  • Plek'd for precision playability
  • SlimTaper neck feels great
  • Two smoking-hot ceramic humbuckers for hot tones
Plek'd for precision playability

This Gibson Explorer 2017 HP feels fast and precise, thanks in large part to Plek processing. Typically reserved for top-dollar custom guitars, this process levels the frets with pinpoint precision, providing you with the most playable fretboard you're likely to own. Each note rings loud and clear, and the fret edges feel smooth as silk.

SlimTaper neck feels great

The Gibson Explorer 2017 HP sports a comfortable, fast-action neck with a '60s SlimTaper profile. Early Gibson guitars had huge, bulky necks. By 1960, Gibson had gradually carved down this profile into what became their SlimTaper neck. As your fingers move down this neck, the precisely controlled width-to-thickness ratio of this Explorer's SlimTaper neck provides you with a consistent, fast, and comfortable feel. It's no wonder many life-long guitar players consider the SlimTaper Gibson's finest neck.

Two smoking-hot ceramic humbuckers for hot tones

Historically, Gibson has long been associated with the dark, punchy tone of the humbucking pickup with its fat low end and crunchy, complex midrange. The Explorer carries on that tradition with two scorching hot humbuckers with ceramic magnets (a 496R in the neck position and a 500T in the bridge position). The Explorer comes standard with coverless pickups, but some Sweetwater guitarists even prefer them removed for a louder output and more top end.

Gibson Explorer 2017 HP Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:
  • Comfortable, lightweight mahogany body lets you rock all night
  • Slim, lightweight, and smoothly contoured mahogany body won't tax your back
  • SlimTaper neck profile balances comfort and speed
  • Gibson 500T and 496R humbuckers give you access to a universe of tone
  • Tune up fast and precise with G Force automated tuning
  • Fast-access heel improves access to upper frets
  • Adjustable titanium zero-fret nut allows you to fine-tune your action

Absolutely Amazing

This is my 2nd Gibson Explorer. My first was the 2016 T model which I also love, but this model takes things up 10 notches. From the beauty of the woodgrain, the density of the body, and the look of all the chrome, this thing is just amazing. The neck is super fast, slightly thicker than my 2016 T, and the fingerboard is beautiful. I can't get enough of this thing. It sounds amazing for everything from metal to pop (yes, POP like Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars!). The only thing I like my Les Paul better for is it has the super fat 50's neck which I like a little better, but the Explorer is so comfortable with the way the body curves into the pickup area - it makes playing fast metal riffs super easy and vastly more comfortably than ANY other guitar I've ever played. I looked at everything from strat-style metal guitars (Jackson, ESP) to SG's to LP's, and I keep coming back to the Explorer. Oh and don't get me started on the case - absolutely gorgeous! The lid is a little wobbly when unlatched but it doesn't bother me much. By the way if you're worried about buying from Sweetwater, DON'T! They blow away the other competitors with their customer service. They are awesome and I will be buying from them again - soon as I save up enough to finally pick up a Flying V =D
