Awesome Zeiss optics capture clear wide-angle video

Many of us at Sweetwater have spent years making videos of our bands and posting them to social media sites. There are a few things we've come to look for in a music camera, and we're happy to say that the Sony HDR-MV1 nails them all. For starters, the camera itself has to cover a wide field and handle low light like a champ. That's why Sony chose to pair a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with their Exmor R CMOS sensor. The lens itself offers you a 120-degree wide-angle view, which lets you to capture your entire band even in tight practice spaces. The fixed F2.8 aperture and advanced onboard metering provide admirable quality in environments as dim as 4.5 lux. And since it records in 1080p at 30 fames/second, you'll be ready to post great-looking HD videos right after shooting with your Sony HDR-MV1.

Quality condenser microphones record stunning stereo audio

Possibly even more important than its video capabilities is the audio quality of the Sony HDR-MV1. Taking full advantage of Sony's history of developing high-end field-recording equipment, the HDR-MV1 offers high-detail, low-noise sound courtesy of an X-Y stereo pair of condenser microphones. Just like the Zeiss camera lens, these microphones cover a 120-degree spread, so anything you record will sound like it's coming from the right place. A bit of built-in advanced audio processing called Audio Lip Sync even ensures that your video and audio are totally synced up, adding an important touch of professional polish to you videos. And with your choice of better-than-CD quality PCM linear or internet-ready AAC recording options, your final video will be ready for further processing or immediate delivery to your fans.

Loaded with options to make shooting fun and convenient

In addition to Audio Lip Sync, Sony loaded the HDR-MV1 music video camera with a number of extremely useful functions. For starters, this camera is Wi-Fi-capable, allowing you to connect to your smartphone for file transfer and remote control. Some of the advanced functions you'll find onboard the HDR-MV1 include a facial detection, which keeps the action focused on the performers, plus a scene modes for shooting at night, onstage, outdoors, and in other environments. The included battery gives you over three hours of shooting time, but you can connect your HDR-MV1 to a USB power source for longer shoots. And with the ability to record on to 32GB SDXC memory cards (and other media), running out of space is no real concern.

Awesome Camera

Custom camera easy-to-use captures every cell in every video at 1080 30 frames per second I used to vlog

Perfect for musicians

The microphones sound great and the wide angle lens is PERFECT for getting everything in the frame. This works well for recording a whole band, but it's also great for recording gear reviews because it is capable of filling the whole frame with the equipment. I'm using it to record me playing synthesizers. THANKS SWEETWATER

Amazing sound and picture

Our business relies on self produced videos. We were so frustrated with our existing hardware that we were considering spending more than we could afford on a new video system. Saw reviews of the Sony HDR-MV1 and thought that at its price it was worth a shot. The sound is so good we no longer need to torture our videos with editing software. We don't even need to use external mics. The built in mics do an excellent job of picking up sound and the camera filters out background noise without degrading the audio quality. The fixed focus lens is perfect for videocasting and instructional videos. Crisp clear video. This camera is saving us time and giving us the best videos we could hope for from a home studio. And all of this from a $299 camera. Go figure!

Almost Perfect

I say almost only because if you are not right in front of the band, the wide angle lens is just too much! The clarity of the lens at any distance is as one would expect from a Carl Zeiss lens, amazingly clear but way in the distance! As for the sound, takes a bit of trial and error but once you get things set right, it’s amazing even within 2 feet of the main cabs! If and when you can get it centered and close to the performers (within 5 feet of a small 4-5 piece band) the stereo shines as does the picture! My only complaint is add a zoom so when doing bar shows and such you can get a tight shot and not have to place it right in the dance floor! Might try rigging it to the light truss and see how that goes soon!

Very good, some improvements and its perfect..

Well the camera is really good, recording beautiful HD movies, but it should be great to also capture still images, the lens is kind of "fish eye" view and some capture items appears distorted on size when it's close, for example, if you try to re order an interview and the subject raise a hand that hand looks longer and somehow distorted, also a possibility to attach additional lens is not possible due the oval form of it... Otherwise is a perfect gadget..
